When you took the picture of the old thermostat backplate and the wire, you had only 2 wires a Red wire on Red and a white wire on ??????  Chances are you have a heating only system and your thermostat is controlling your heating system I’ll be at a gas furnace or a oil burning furnace. The key is the red wire is connected to the white wire when heat is desired. That tells me that you’re white wire is probably connected to the W terminal.

The nest thermostat needs to have power in order to run the thermostat. This requires there to be a common wire attached to the C terminal coming from the HVAC equipment. Do me a favor and tell me what model nest thermostat do you currently have that you’re trying to install?

Hello folks,

Thanks for the input, @CoolingWizard.

@jm7525, how's it going? The Nest Thermostats don't use jumper wires, but if your current thermostat has a jumper wire, do not enter it into the Nest Thermostat. Also, I did find a helpful article to learn more about the common, or C, wire. Please let us know if you have more questions.

I'll look forward to your response.

Mark
