Nest v3 thermostat with older heatlink

My old nest v2 thermostat broke down unfortunately so we bought a new one. The new one is v3. Can I simply replace only the old base and thermostat and keep the old v2 heatlink? Or do I need to install the new heatlink as well?

Hi @Dudeson

If you look at THIS support page it does show a different model heat link so I would assume it will not work with the old one.

You don't have all the possible features with an older heat link.

The best is the replace your Heat Link. 😊

Thanks for reaching out to us here @Dudeson . I am sorry to hear your old unit is no longer working and I am happy to hear you managed to get the current version.

Like @RXShorty , thank you very much for the input and link, the second and third generation devices are indeed different.

If you want to replace the thermostat you will also need to replace the Heat Link as the second generation is not designed to communicate with the third generation unit. However, if you have only heating you will only need to have the wires from the old Heat Link transferred to the new third generation one as the terminals will be identical. The 3rd generation just has more terminals for hot water control. Do make sure to have an installer or Nest Pro to assist as you are dealing with high voltage on the Heat Link side.
