Hi John,

Welcome to our community and thanks for reaching out to us! We're happy to hear that you're considering a Nest Thermostat for your home. Let's see what your wires mean.

It looks like you have the right wires for the Nest Thermostat. Here's my decoding:
  • W2: secondary heating (e.g., furnace, dual-fuel, or multistage systems)
  • W/E: emergency heat wire
  • Rh and Rc: heating and cooling
  • Y: cooling
  • G: fan
  • C: C-wire, which is important to maintain a consistent charge for your thermostat to function properly.
However, depending on if your HVAC system is either multistage or dual-fuel,  contacting a Nest Pro is necessary to prevent any damage during installation as these wiring setups can be notoriously tricky.

Our Compatibility Checker is a great tool to see if your system is compatible. If you decide to get a Nest Thermostat, the Nest app can also assist with installation as it will provide a custom wiring diagram for your device.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you any further questions for us.
