Removing old owner from my thermostat

Shankar
Community Member

Hi,

I moved into this house which had a Nest thermostat installed in it. The previous owner did not remove the account from the device and I am unable to connect to that device thru my App. I did not want to perform a factory reset as I was not sure what else I would lose if I did that. I saw an option on the Reset on the devise which will allow me to remove the owner from the device thus probably enabling the new user to connect. Wanted to make sure that this is the right way to remove the owner or is there any other way to do it.

Hi everyone,

@SueS, thanks for posting ― let's see what's going on.

I suggest to make sure your Nest Thermostat is not associated to an account and is correctly factory reset. Check this guide on how to do so: Restart or reset a Nest thermostat

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Mel

Ok thanks, settings -> reset -> account connection should allow you to change the owner to yourself.

Sir, thank you. I will try that

I have the same issue.  Did  laurentbourg's suggestion work for you?  Were you able to add the device to the app. after you did the reset?

It didnt worked for me

Same here. Did you get a solution for this??

Yes I did. I called for service and a specialist guided me through the process.

You need to remove the base and connect it to a computer.

Do you have a link for the location to do the reset via computer?

What number did you call? Or where are instructions to update via computer?  I’ve reset 3 times but it won’t let me add to my account.

I have a similar situation but on the other side -- am selling a condo and new owners wrote into the contract that they want the Nest device.   If I delete my account prior to closing, am I liberated AND can they then set the thermostat up easily?  Its a gen 3

Yeah well I bought our house 2 years ago...I can work the nest thermostat from my android phone, but the ring cameras I cannot get any picture from any of them, yet they show on... the doorbell works fine, but no picture, the drive way motion lights n camera the motion lights come on a blinking red light on camera...its weird makes you feel like previous owners are watching you...  Nest products such from this experience I'm having... where do you find like a wiring station input center for this stupid hard wired system at?

Hi rockinronnie,

Thanks for the response. I'm glad to hear that you can control your Nest Thermostat from your phone. If want to make sure that no one else can access your Ring cameras, I would suggest reaching out to them directly to get better support.

Thanks,

Edward

I bought a house that has a nest. The previous owner died. It says already connected to an account. I don’t see a reset. What can I do?
