Replacing a Bosch FR120 Thermostat with a NEST 3rd gen

Hi there

I am looking to replace my existing Bosch FR120 Thermostat with a NEST Gen 3 device.

The current system is a two wire 24vDC device.

From the forums available I get mixed views on whether this is possible or what is required to make it work.

Anyone replaced one of these devices and what was required?

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. I found an article with more details on compatibility. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Hi there,  thanks for reaching out.  I found this blog recently that I was hoping may be part of the answer here.
https://carly.be/using-the-nest-thermostat-with-a-modulating-junckers-boiler-2/ As this is pretty much what I am trying to achieve, without the use of the NEST HeatLink device - as it looks like this is used in Europe / UK for NEST installations.

Hi there! Please check the compatibility here: https://goo.gle/2QRgNWR . Also, please take into account the fact that our thermostat can't function without its Heat Link. Please let me know if there are any questions left.

Hi there

Yes I did. However, from what I have read  the heat link device is used in Europe and not in Australia.

Hi @jmclean. Only the European version of the Nest thermostat, which has a Heat Link, is compatible with OpenTherm boilers. You can find more information about the OpenTherm functionality with Nest thermostats here. But keep in mind that Australia is not a supported country for Nest thermostats.
