Rh/Rc jumper

EJFarley

I just purchased a Nest thermostat model thermostat-1.4 and installed it.  My original thermostat used a jumper wire between the Rh and Rc terminals.  There was only one power (red) wire coming out of the wall. The instructions for setting up the nest directs not to install a jumper wire.

I connected the one red wire to the R terminal, which activates my AC with no problem. This morning, when turning on the heating, it turns on the fan but not the heat system in the furnace. My question is, how does the internal jumper automatically work or is there anything more I can do to get the “automatic connection”

Hello EJFarley,

I'm sorry if you have to go through this. We'd like you to have a better experience using your new Nest Thermostat to activate both heat and cool. Let's find out more about what happened.

A few questions: do you the picture of your previous thermostat wiring diagram? If possible, could you send us a picture of your previous and current thermostats diagram? Also, what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Here's a link about jumper wires.

I'll look forward for your response.

Thanks,

Mark
