I am trying to connect a new temperature sensor to my thermostat, the app keeps saying the thermostat needs a software update but the thermostat says it's updated. How do I connect the sensor?

Are you in the UK, if so the sensors will not work, and the way Google act, they never will.

Hi folks,

Thanks for chiming in, @Frustratedddd

@Johnoak, yikes! If you're encountering an issue where the Nest app is requesting a software update for your thermostat, but the thermostat itself indicates that it's already up to date, here are some steps you can try:

  1. Restart your Nest Thermostat by going to Settings > Reset > Restart to refresh the device and resolve any temporary issues causing the software update request.
  2. If the thermostat issue persists after restarting, manually trigger a software update by selecting the "Software Update" or "Check for Updates" option in the thermostat settings. If an update is available, proceed with the installation process.
  3. To ensure a stable internet connection, check your thermostat's Wi-Fi settings and ensure it is properly connected to your home network, as a stable internet connection is crucial for downloading and installing software updates.
  4. Ensure you're using the latest version of the Nest app on your mobile device, check for updates in the app store, and install any available ones to avoid compatibility issues or inaccurate notifications.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe, many thanks for your help, I have found out the sensors do not work in the UK only in the US! ! Why Amazon are selling them in the UK is beyond belief but there you go!

@zoeuvre, Sadly this has been asked for a long time, and as I stated Google are not interested at all for users in the UK. 2 years I have been waiting, and still the product team have not bothered to open the software. even more starnge, the software is in the UK thermostat ready to go, it just needs to be available.

@Johnoak, Where is the link for Amazon UK selling the sensors, I can't locate that?

Hi Frustratedddd,

We're happy to hear about your excitement for Nest Temperature Sensor availability in UK, but we don't have any news to share about it right now. Rest assured that we'll take your feedback as an opportunity to learn and to be able to provide a better experience in the future. If you come across other information you'd like to pass along or have more questions, feel free to create a new post.

Thanks,

Zoe

Sadly that's the same response every time a question has been asked about the sensors. Google have no intention of opening up the firmware to allow the sensors to be used in the UK.

Regarding feedback, well after 7 years I am still waiting for the firmware to be updated to show the Hot Water icon go ''Orange'' when activated. Just going to ''On'' and staying black is not good, especially when the 3rd Gen stat was first launched and it did go orange then.

I was promised years ago that would be fixed, but nothing has changed.
