Hi, the app said my system is incompatible, but our neighbors in the same apartment complex also have the same utility provider and age of their home (same developer) and they have Google Nest.
Hoping it's just a wiring issue.
Thanks!

Your wires are:
G, green wire
W, White Wire
Y, Yellow Wire
R, Red Wire
C, Blue Wire
Your system is fully compatible with the Nest Thermostat, the Nest Learning Thermostat, and the Nest E Learning Thermostat.

Thank you cooling wizard! That worked like a charm on the first thermostat. We have one more and I messed up by not taking a picture of the before but it’s the exact same model as the one downstairs but as you can see the wiring is slightly different with an orange cable now. Are you able to help based on the colors and what you know about the prior thermostat you helped me with? If not, I messed up because I don’t know how to plug it back in. Thank you!

Well, that kind of puts us a little bit at a loss there’s a little way you can try to figure out what wire does what but it’s going to be a little tricky. We have to assume that the red wire is going to be the RC. Now if you touch the red wire to the green wire, you should see the blower fan turn on if that’s the case the green wire will be your G. The tricky thing to avoid is not to connect RED to the Common wire. For now we do not let RED to touch BLUE or the ORANGE. RED to YELLOW should turn on the air conditioner. RED to WHITE should tun on the Heater. Let me know how that goes. Now that that orange wire, most the time that’s used when there are heat pumps. Is this system heat pump?

Everything you predicted about touching the red wire to the green, white and yellow wires were correct. And yes we have a heat pump I believe. Thanks again I will wait for next steps!

Wire your Nest Learning Thermostat as follows:
Rc - Red Wire (Power 24VAC)
Y1 - Yellow Wire (Compressor Relay)
G - Green Wire (Fan Relay)
O/B - Orange Wire (Heat Pump Changeover Valve)
C - Blue Wire (Power 24VAC)
W2/AUX - White Wire (auxiliary Heat)
* - Black Wire (Emergency Heat)
to be sure about the white wire and a black wire. If you have access to the unit, you should check to see where the white wire and black wire connected at the other end.

Thanks again. This is how it’s set up but when I went to install it asked if I had any special cables I clicked on the O/B and said I need a R cable? It doesn’t seem to be working on the set up side. Maybe it’s a different issue than the wiring because this one didn’t seem to work downstairs either. I’ll try to redo the wires in a second I guess.

That is not a Nest Learning Thermostat. that is the basic Nest Thermostat. The *OB can be defined or it can be the Heat Pump Changeover valve. If you have access to the air handler that this thermostat gets wired to we really need to go get the cover off and see what the heck the wires are hooked up to to get it right.

Sorry, I’m not sure what that means? Is this version still compatible? If so is that the correct wiring? Thx!

When you find the air handler, look closely at it, and you can see where in the cabinet, the power and the brown cable enters. And that’s gonna be the cover. You need to be able to takeoff to see the control board and then you can make a note on what letters each color wire is attached to.

The bottom is your air conditioning coil, the top half how’s your blower in it and that’s where your control board is at. Call me on .

Hi johntwood85,
Sounds great! I'm glad to hear you were able to sort it out. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread within 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.
