Wiring compatibility

Will the standard Nest thermostat work with the addition of a C wire to the 2 wire system I have now. One of the 2 wires comes from a 24 VAC transformer and the other wire routes to the natural gas solenoid that turns the gas on.

Hi flyfisherbill,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community.

The Google Nest Thermostat works with most 24V HVAC systems. You could share a photo of your current wiring configuration and use this online compatibility checker to help you further.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Yes I have. Both Nest and Amazon Smart. Both said not compatible. Nest listed the 2 more expensive models as acceptable Amazon just said not compatible. Neither mentioned anything about adding a C wire to make the Standard Nest or Amazon Smart compatible.

Hi flyfisherbill,

Thanks for the reply and for including the photo.

It seems that your system is compatible with the Nest Thermostat as it is a 2 wire heating system. You may need to install a C wire to get constant power from the HVAC unit. If you don't have a C wire available, you could check out this Nest Power Connector.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Ryan
