I was guided from my energy provider site then to Google to post this to see if nest is compatible

It’s gonna be a little hard to make that final determination of compatibility. You have a two wire system, so what happens is a signal comes in on one wire and the thermostat sent it back on the other wire when they didn’t demand for the service of heat is needed. Now if that red wire is carrying 24 V AC then it will be compatible with the nest. To check this we need to actually go to the other end of the cable and see what it is connected to there. This will either be a furnace, a gas valve, or an air handler control board . We need to see if there is a 24 V AC step down transformer there.
