I have a gas fireplace with a single pole wire switch (millivolt) that can control the gas logs on/off and I bought a Google Nest E thermostat because research said the nest E would control the fireplace without any 24 vac power, but i cannot get it to go through setup because it says it does not have a (R) or power wire. I connected my (2) wires from single pole switch to the (R) and (W) on the nest wall connector plate. Will this Nest E work without 24 vac power?
Thanks

Hello sdperk,
Thank you for taking the time in letting us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.
Depending on your heater if it asks to have one. In most cases, Google Nest thermostats can charge their built-in battery using your heating wires. But there are situations where they may need to connect the Nest Power Connector or a common or C wire to consistently deliver power to their thermostat.
Have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.
Best regards,
Mark

Hi there,
Thanks for keeping up with our Nest thermostats! Yes, it may still be compatible. But I'd suggest installing a Nest Power Connector or a C wire to help avoid power issues in the future.
Here are some references to help you install Nest Power Connector and C wire on your HVAC system.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.
Best regards,
Mark

Hi sdperk,
I get your point. The wires coming from your thermostat are connected to one control panel, which is most likely inside your system.
To be sure, could you please send us a picture of your current thermostat wiring setup? Also, have a look at this guide to identify a thermostat wire.
I'll look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Mark
