Nest WiFi config with 4g router (wired)

Hello,

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I would like to understand how it might be possible to improve my mesh network.

I have recently realised that what I thought were telephone sockets are actually LAN sockets with cabling running to various places in my home. To improve the connection of my Google WiFi, I am going o try to connect the WiFi points over this LAN cabling.

The specific question I have relates to the fact I use 4g broadband, and therefore use a 4g modem/router to access internet services.

Currently, I have a Google nest router plugged into the 4g modem (which is running in bridge mode), with 3 Google WiFi points connected in a mesh config over WiFi.

What I am wondering is what would be the best way to improve the speed/reliability; is best to connect the 4g router into the LAN socket to enable a wired connevtion to the Google WiFi points, or if I should plug the Nest router into the LAN socket.

I.e. can the Google WiFi points access the internet through the 4g modem directly if connected by LAN cable, or will they always need.to pass through the Google Nest router to do so?

Can anyone suggest what the best/right option is.

Many thanks for anyone who's taken the time to read and respond.

Hello @Ddaannbbb

The secondary Google WiFi units (the ones that are currently wireless-only) will need to be connected to the primary Google WiFi unit's LAN Ethernet port (the unit that is currently connected to your 4G internet service). You may need to purchase an inexpensive Ethernet switch and some patch cables to make all of this work. Here's a support page with more details: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7215624?hl=en

You can't connect the secondary units directly to the 4G modem – that will cause problems.
