Nest wifi points fail to connect to mesh when router has network connection

Rhino1987

So I just moved to a new home and transferred my internet services (same company, Xfinity). I deleted my old home on the Google Home app, created a new home, reset the best wifi router back to factory defaults, and reset all wifi points.

I am able to get network connection through the nest router, but the wifi points fail to connect. The points ARE recognized, but as soon as it tries to join the mesh, I get the "something went wrong" error...

I've tried resetting all points while maintaining the connection of the router, and then resetting the modem after everything is on and ready... Still the same issue.

Please help with this. It is mind boggling that I am able to get network speeds around 300 Mbps while connected to the router, and then be told there is no internet connection from the wifi point.

Rhino,

Its definitely the android app that is the problem.  Search for a earlier version of Google home app APK and install that and try again, or borrow a iphone from someone.

I've escalated this and two other similar threads, hopefully Google will look into it.

I had this same issue.  I resolved it by using an Apple device to set up the Mesh system.

Hope that helps!

I'm curious if the issue lies with me setting up my network with the same SSID and info from my old house...

Google Home goes through a step during setup that requests I save the network info to my device, but because it is the same info, it seems to completely skip it.

When I get to the new house today, I will try forgetting the network info on my device (Pixel 7), and then setting up. It may be trying to apply some cached legacy settings from my old house to the new network...

So I've completely removed the Google home.app from my phone, reinstalled, factory reset all wifi points and the router, started from scratch, and I'm still having the exact same problem.

Rhino,

Its definitely the android app that is the problem.  Search for a earlier version of Google home app APK and install that and try again, or borrow a iphone from someone.

For some strange reason, this worked. Ironic that setting up from my wife's iPhone worked... Now I have to deal with her gloating about her Apple device being better than my Google device. Thanks!

Hey folks,

Thanks for lending a hand, @olavrb.

We’re aware of the issue with setting up access points and we’ve seen customers who are now able to set up their access points again using android devices. Please let me know if you’re still having issues, I’ll be happy to help out.

Thanks,

Abi

Nope! Seems like it was the Android app itself. All good now.

Hey Rhino1987,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Cheers,
Abi

Hello to all,

Today I decided to add a new Wifi point to my mesh and the operation failed. As I was trying to solve this issue I ended up removing the existing mesh and starting from scratch... Oh man, I shouldn't have done that. Now, none of my wifi points work as all of them fail to join the mesh.

Anyway, I've tried to roll back my google home to a previous version and the issue persists. I also followed the same course of action Rhino did and nothing changed.

Hope that someone at Google fixes this issue quickly.

It doesn't seem logical to rely on an apple product to fix an 'android ecosystem' issue...
