I connected a Kwikset Z-wave lock to SmartThings using the Aeotec hub. I can control it with the SmartThings app and with Alexa, but the Google Home app does not see it. I know that the SmartThings account is connected correctly because Google Home can see and control a smart plug I have. How can I get Google Home to monitor and control the lock? Is Google Home limited to only Nest branded smart locks?

Hi cherie571,
Thanks for posting and apologies for the late response. A few questions: have you tried to link the Kwikset Z-wave lock directly on the Google Home app? Also, you can check out this link on how to set up the lock on the Google Home app.
Keep me posted.
Regards,
Nikki

Hi Nikki,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried what you suggested, but it does not work. It is not possible to link the lock directly in the Google Home app because the lock communicates using z-wave and requires a hub. So first I have to connect the lock in the SmartThings app and then connect SmartThings to the Google Home app. I have a smart plug and a virtual switch linked to the SmartThings app, which the Google Home app can see, so I know the SmartThings app is linked to Google Home correctly. My Amazon Echo can see the door lock, so I know that SmartThings is making the lock available. Why is the lock not visible in the Google Home app?
Thanks,
Cherie

Hi cherie571,
Thanks for the details. You can only link your Kwikset smart lock using the Kwikset Smart Home app. We'd suggest trying to link your device using its native app instead. You can visit this link and let me know how it goes.
Best,
Nikki

Hi Alex,
The Kwikset app is only for their bluetooth locks such as Halo and Aura locks. This solution will not work for Z-wave locks. Is there another way to connect to z-wave locks through SmartThings? If not, I'd like to submit a feature request.
Thanks,
Cherie

Hey cherie571,
Please note that Kwikset Z-wave locks are not officially supported by the Google Home/Nest devices. You might want to check with SmartThings if locks are supported by using voice commands using Google Home or Google Nest devices. Also, you can send feedback using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps on this link.
Thanks,
Alex

Did you have any more questions or need any additional help?

Hi Jeran,
My understanding is that Google does not support controlling locks without some other layer in between such as the Kwikset app, or if they are specific locks such as the Nest Yale lock. It is possible to trick it by creating a virtual switch and linking it to the lock using SmartThings automations, but the verbal commands are a little awkward. I wish Google would be able to control lock as seamlessly as Alexa. If there is nothing else I can do to make it work directly, then I have no further questions.
Thank you,
Cherie
