T013(4096) error. Can’t connect the Yale Lock

SmithCA

No matter the troubleshooting, I can’t get the Nest Connect to connect to my Yale Lock.  The initial Nest Connect add goes well.  As soon I I try to connect the lock I get the T013(4096) error.

Yale says they only help with physical installation and is sending me to Nest support for connectivity issues. Will Nest support be different from Google support?

I’m having the same issue. I have tried all the troubleshooting from above without success.

I wanted to provide an update to everyone here that's experiencing this issue. The support agent that was attempting to assist me via the additional support ticket I was directed to submit did nothing but provide me the exact same steps every support agent before them has suggested. Numerous requests to factory reset, to create a new home in the Nest App, to create a separate 2.4ghz network, to enable IPv6, to disable all security... If you have to go this far to get a product like this to work, the problem is the product.

My support agent gave up and insisted I contact Yale's customer service. This was as of February 10th. So my current state is Google not offering any support recommendations that would help to retain me as a user of their products.

Wow, thank you for the update. Google has a poor history of providing on-going support for products, especially those they acquire on partner with. That’s why I typically use Amazon (Ring) or Apple ecosystem. Even when you try to support and buy/use Google, they have a way of not giving you their support back even when you’re the one paying for it! 😖

Hey all,

I’m sorry you’re still having trouble connecting your lock. We appreciate all your efforts here. Let’s further investigate this — could you fill out this form and let me know once you’re done?

Looking forward to your response.

@Tylergarner35, thanks for your help here.

Thanks,

I called Yale service this morning. They gave me a number to call to help with the Nest app…. The number they gave me is out of service! Lol 855-469-6378

Wow, are we living our own version of The Truman Show here? This is a complete joke lol.

The only way to fix this:

Turn on HOTSPOT from your cell phone. Connect Thermostat and Nest Connect to your cell phones hotspot for WIFI.

Start the setup for the lock. After set up is finished you can change the wifi on the connect and the thermostat back to your wifi.

Tyler,

First off, this thread is for the Yale Lock, not the Nest Thermostat. Secondly, this step has been done. The Nest Connect will always disconnect and go offline after 30 mins to an hour or so.

That is correct, this thread is for the lock. The reason why the lock does not connect is because it is trying to use the thermostat and the connect at the same time. once you remove the thermostat and the connect from your wifi and move them to a different network the LOCK will connect without any errors.
You should try it 🙂

I don’t have a thermostat. This is the only Nest product I own.

Then you have a different problem that will not be solved on this thread.

The thermostat is pretty nice I suggest you getting one. Then maybe my post will be useful for you

This thread is regarding the inability of the Yale Lock to connect to the Nest Connect. OP makes no reference to the Thermostat, and there's no reference of Thermostat as a primary issue in this thread . Your suggestion is irrelevant.

Let's see what happens when they try it. You can complain about it after they are successful with this.

I will make sure to keep track of it so you don't have to

Tylergarner35 is right.  This personal hotspot method is the only way to fix the problem.

Turn off your phone’s Wi-Fi, turn on personal hotspot and ensure that your personal hotspot is discoverable.  Uninstall ALL Nest products (yes, everything), factory reset your Nest Connect and make sure you when you re-add it to your Nest account, you connect it to your personal hotspot (this will fail SEVERAL times because Nest products evidently are poor quality, but keep trying), finish setting up Nest Connect per app instructions.  Factory reset Nest Yale Door Lock (reset button hidden behind battery panel, requiring screwdriver to access) and run through its setup while your phone hotspot is still connected to Nest Connect (this will also fail SEVERAL times, but keep trying).

Finally, once you’ve set up all of your Nest devices by connecting to your personal hotspot, now it’s time to go into Settings—>Nest Connect—>setup new Wi-Fi.  This is where you’ll switch your Nest Connect back to the 2.4GHz wifi that you initially intended to set up, but due to poor design, you initially failed to complete.

I spent hours dealing with this so someone please sticky this post so others don’t waste their precious time like I did!

Separately, as a point of customer feedback, I’d like to say that I’m very disappointed with the stability of the Nest app, the compatibility of various Nest products with Wi-Fi and between themselves, and I’m disappointed in the troubleshooting instructions that can be found via a web search.  The troubleshooting instructions were SUPER short and vague under the category of attempting a personal hotspot method to solve this problem.  You can do better than this, Google.

Keep us posted on how long this stays connected. I tried the personal hotspot route with the Google support team and the device disconnected after a couple of hours.

I wanted to pile in to this thread as well. I’m having the same problems after transporting my Nest Yale Lock from old house to new house (yes, I set up a new home ecosystem in the app). I’m able to connect my Nest Connect and my Nest Protect to 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi, but connecting lock is impossible despite 20-30 factory reset attempts. Obviously very frustrating. I will fill out the form above and join this unfortunate group.

I am having the exact same issue as everyone else. Error t013 (4096). My nest connect is working fine and has strong WiFi connection but it won’t sync when I try to set up the yale lock on the app. Just spent an hour on the phone with support taking me through all these silly troubleshooting problems with no avail.  Super frustrating.

Follow the personal hotspot approach. It seems to be the only thing that works. I tried 1,000 other things and it was the only solution.

I struggled with the hotspot approach because my nest connect wouldn’t recognize the mobile hotspot, despite both nest thermostats being able to connect to the hotspot successfully. My work around for anyone with that same problem. Use your hotspot on your laptop. For my Mac it was system preferences>sharing>internet sharing using a thunderbolt Ethernet and giving out a WiFi signal. When I did that finally my nest connect recognized that WiFi and was successfully connected. I then put my thermostats both on that laptop hotspot as well. Only then, was I finally able to connect the nest yale lock. Phew. Too much work if you ask me. They really should work towards a better solution. Thanks all for the help.

Keep us posted if this keeps the Nest Connect and Lock connected. I kept having the Nest Connect go offline after 1-2 hours. This was happening after factory resets, creating a separate Home in the Nest app, creating the Lock's own 2.4ghz network to connect to, and going this hotspot approach.

The Nest Connect has no issues connecting to a Wi-Fi 6 router during the initial setup. But when you try to configure the Nest/Yale lock through the Nest app, the Connect has to be connected to a Wi-Fi 5 device or older… I pulled out an old router, changed my Connect connection to the old(er) router, then re-ran the install with no problem. Took 2 minutes to install the lock. Once everything was installed, I reconnected my Connect to the Wi-Fi 6 router. Done!

Cheat: if you don’t have an old Wi-Fi 5 router, you can use your phone’s hotspot.
