Weather data on 2 Nest Hub fullscreen clocks disappears overnight on Firmware Version 1.60.305621

This started with one of our Nest Hubs a few weeks ago and now is occurring on two of them. Each night, around 3:00 -3:30 am I think, the weather data that is displayed on the fullscreen clock on two of our Nest Hubs disappears. When this first started occurring, I was able to restore it by selecting a different clock face and then returning to the Weather clock face. Now, it will occasionally restore by just opening the Google Home app, or by visiting the Photo Frame setting. Usually, however, I have to reboot the Nest Hub in the Google Home app.

This does not affect any of the other functionality of either Nest Hub.  They still always have Internet connectivity and you can get Google results at any time.  They can be accessed from the Google Home app.  In fact, you can ask it for the weather and it immediately returns results, but the weather data on the fullscreen weather clock face still shows no temperature, clear, and sunny regardless of the actual weather.

If I had to guess, I'd say that some sort of function gets performed on Google Nest Hubs around 3:00-3:30 am each night, and this function has a bug in it.  I have noticed a couple of times that our Nest Hub Max sometimes reboots on its own around this time.

So far, unfortunately I have nothing new to share. The frustration you feel from not having a resolution or just even more information on what's happening is understandable and justified. I'm sharing the same frustration with you because you're still experiencing this issue and I know how inconvenient it has been.

Just joined community to try to find answer to this extremely annoying issue: My nest hub (7" screen,  gen. 1) is set to display the clock with weather information but, a month or two ago, it stopped displaying the conditions and temperature at some point everyday. Merely opening the home app (android 11) "immediately" restores the information. Why does it lose the info. daily & can I do something to stop it

Don't know if I'm posting this in the right place but this is where others seem to be talking about this issue.  I just wish to be notified when an answer/solution is found.  Thanks!

Pardon my intrusion, had to ask: can we customize the Google Assistant wake up name already.

Vision - no the wake up name is still hey Google / okay Google.  Send feedback from the Google home app so it gets to the Google engineer team, as we are a community forum made up of end users just like you!

Via email 4 days ago, the "Google Nest Customer Care Team" said "per our engineering team, the issue should be fixed by now. Can you try to reboot your Google Nest Hub and check?"

Their "fix" did not correct the problem. Each night, in the early morning hours the weather data still disappears from the weather clock face on our two Nest Hubs on Cast Firmware Version 1.60.305621.

Via email 2 days ago, the "Google Nest Customer Care Team" asked us "to do a Factory Reset the Google Nest Hub and set it up in the Google Home app" and let them know what happened.  We did so.

Last night, sometime between 11 pm and 5 am the weather data once again disappeared from the weather clock face on our two Nest Hubs on Cast Firmware Version 1.60.305621, including on the one we reset.

Add me to the list of Gen 1 Google (Home) Nest Hub customers experiencing these issues - mainly the disappearance of weather data after a period of time. I have discovered that opening the Google Home app on my phone is enough to cause the weather data on the Nest Hub to refresh. At first I thought the Google Home app was being put to sleep by my phone's battery saving measures, but then I realized the Nest Hub should not need to get weather data from the Google Home app on someone's phone. I wonder if there is an issue with this release of the software on the Nest Hub that is mitigated when the Google Home app connects to the Nest Hub? Regardless, this issue needs to be resolved immediately!

System firmware version: 6.20211109.1.3166240

Cast firmware: 1.60.305621

I just noticed the weather info was missing on my Gen 1 Nest Hub, so I thought I would try something. When I attempt to swipe up from the bottom to access the controls and apps pop-up, only the controls are displayed. NO APPS. When I attempt to swipe the home screen left to access the tabs and controls, instead I get a different photo from the curated art gallery. Apparently, something (task or app?) in the Nest Hub has crashed, frozen, or stopped for some other reason. No apps added to the controls on swipe up. No tabs or controls screen.

Using my phone, I opened the Home app and the weather info suddenly appeared on the Nest Hub (which we have already documented). Additionally, the apps were now present when I swiped up, and the tabs and controls screen was available when I swiped left.

When will this be fixed? It seems as though I just bought a "clock" and not a working ecosystem. Not a good look Google, get on it.

I don't know if this will work for you, but opening the Home app in the morning fixes the issue temporarily on all the devices (ten of them) in my house within ten seconds. I'm eagerly awaiting a fix, but this workaround is at least getting me the functionality I need for the time being.

My absolute pleasure.

Saying "we are looking into it" isn't a solution. It is barely useful information

Is there a solution for this issue? Has started happening on my own hub now in 2023. Can’t find that a solution has been posted.

Hey Google it's a year later now and this is STILL a problem.

We have clock w/temp frame display selected also eq over ridden abd the Temp STILL disappears when room goes dark. Maybe leaving Alexa for you was a mistake ??

I honestly haven't seen any issues with mine , weather is always on it fine

@chenryoddone

The problem we reported originally on this post (temperature data disappearing overnight during the 2 - 3 am reboot) was corrected long ago. However, the nighttime dimmed display of the time only that occurs when the room gets dark has never included the temperature.

From manmandoo: (Google translate)
The same problem is occurring in Korea.

This is the first generation of Google Nest Home, and when you run the Google Home app
the weather is displayed and then disappears again after a while.
manmandoo: Well, now I know the issue is universal. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

We just want to check if anyone here are still experiencing the issue? Others had confirm that it's already working. Kindly respond to this thread and let us know if it's already fixed on your end.

Best,

Princess

@Princesss

It is not fixed.  The weather data does not disappear every single night, and it does not always disappear on both Nest Hubs.  But this morning, the weather data had once again disappeared on BOTH Nest Hubs.

Thanks for checking in. I'm still experiencing the same issue as of today.

If there's a firmware update (and a way to manually push it) I'd love to give it a try.

Sadly, still not showing for me.

hi, on my side still the same. But when I check fuchsia/software/cast firmware version, I have still the same - so is there a way how to update Nest manually?

smegger

After being ok for the last 3 days mine is again not working this morning.

Kelvin-273

Not fixed for me either. Usually if I pull the plug, it will reboot with temp showing. This morning I had to pull the plug twice to get temp.

For what it's worth, I find that opening the home app on my phone causes it to connect with all the displays in the house and they all start showing proper information within a few seconds. I've taken to doing this in the mornings as a part of my routine.

For us, just opening the Google Home app sometimes restores the weather data on both Nest Hubs. Sometimes one of the offending Nest Hubs has to be selected in the Google Nest Hub. Sometimes rebooting one of the offending Nest Hubs restores the weather data on both. And sometimes both Nest Hubs have to be individually rebooted.

And sometimes the weather data does not disappear for a couple of days on one or both of the Nest Hubs.

Hi everyone,

Apparently, there's no option do a force update on our Google Nest devices. All updates are sent over-the-air (OTA) as long as your devices are connected in a stable Wi-Fi connection. Let's wait for a stable fix on this as I've already notified our team about this.

We appreciate your understanding.

Princess

All 3 of my 1st Gen Nest Hubs are running firmware 6.20211109.1.3166240 and crashing on a daily basis.

The weather widget next to the time displays "---° F" and the only application available from pulling the menu down is "Photo frame."

Asking the assistant will still play videos, music, etc. There's just no manual way of looking and choosing until I unplug and reboot it.

I've done factory resets on them only to have the same problem return.

Help!

@tgilders

This is similar to a known problem introduced by Cast Firmware Version 1.60.305621 that Google Nest says they're working on fixing. It occurs on two of our Nest Hubs. Google Nest has made one unsuccessful attempt to fix it. For us, just opening the Google Home app sometimes fixes the problem; otherwise, we have to do a Reboot from the Google Home app. Doing a factory reset did not help. See this thread: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Weather-data-on-2-Nest-Hub-fullscreen-c...

same is happening on nest 2nd edition as well... they are a disaster.

@Innovalol

It hasn't happened on our 2nd Gen Nest Hub yet, perhaps because it's still on Cast Firmware Version 1.56.290464, while the 2 mis-functioning 1st Gen Nest Hubs were upgraded (by Google Nest) to Cast Firmware Version 1.60.305621 over a month ago.
