Can't see Chromecast Ultra as casting destination

Mordecai

Hi,

I've had a chromecast ultra for a couple years and haven't had any issues, but just in this last week I can't cast to it. My devices can't see it as a destination to cast to. Samsung A71 (tried YouTube, Spotify and Amazon Prime) and Microsoft Surface Laptop (from Chrome). In Google home it's "not available".

I tried power cycling the Chromecast, phone and router. With router powered down, Chromecast says it has no internet connection.

I tried factory reset of the Chromecast, Google Home could see it and I was able to set it up just fine (connecting to the network etc). However, the issue persists... (i.e. I can't see it as a destination to cast to and Google home now says "unavailable")

It's displaying the lovely ambient photos, correct time and weather. So I'm assuming that it's happy with its LAN and internet connection.

I suspect may has something to do with the router config, but that hasn't been touched in the last week apart from power cycling it...

I am having a similar problem, if you can see the Chromecast from this app from the Microsoft store, it is a chrome problem. https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/av-cast/9WZDNCRDMB1W?hl=xh-za&gl=za

I haven't figured out anything else yet

Hey there Mordecai and mtmitguy,

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix this casting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out. With what you've already tried, go ahead and give these steps a try if you have a dual-band router:

  1. Access Point (AP) isolation must be disabled. Other devices such as laptops or computers can use the 5 GHz band. The 5 GHz band will maximize performance when using the Cast extension to cast a tab.
  2. To reduce network congestion for both networks, connect the other devices unrelated to Chromecast, such as laptops, to the 5 GHz network and leave the Chromecast connected to the 2.4 GHz network.

If you haven't already, go ahead and disable any proxies or VPNs that you may have enabled. I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

it isn't an issue of the Chromecast getting a signal in my case. I downloaded the software in the link above and installed it on the laptop that I am having problems with. It sees and casts the Chromecast but Chrome can't see them on the same laptop. I can ping the Chromecast and it works fine, I can also see the Chromecast and cast to it with an identical model laptop on the same network. mine is definitely a Chrome problem (I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled and that didn't fix it either).

Hi Jeran,

I got it working. I set up a subnetwork using a more reliable router which I had spare. Subnetwork has it's own DHCP server.

I couldn't get it to work with the original sagecom 5G modem router. I couldn't diagnose the issue either. It worked fine for over a year and just stopped one day (i.e. couldn't see chromecast as a destination to cast to)
