Cannot cast from macbook to tv

Lionking

Hi,

I haven't not been able to cast from chrome running on my macbook.  Everytime I selected cast from the menu, it returned an error message saying "No devices found".  My chromecast worked just fine with my ipad and iphone but not my macbook.  I tried everything (rebooting my chromecast, rebooting my macbook and checked whether all my devices are on the same wifi network).

Thanks.

Hi Lionking,

Thanks for reaching out. Let's check on this further.

A few questions: What Operating System (OS) do you use? What browser are you using? If you're using a Google Chrome browser, is its version updated? Did this previously work or did the issue begin recently?

Try these steps:

  1. Ensure that the browser used is Google Chrome and that it is up-to-date.
  2. Check if your MacBook's operating system is compatible with the Chromecast. Note: Mac versions below 10.9 do not support casting on Google Chrome.
  3. Check the antivirus of the computer. Note: There are cases wherein the Chromecast device fails to work after the antivirus finishes an update. If this happens, call your antivirus provider.
  4. Reboot your Chromecast, MacBook, and Wi-Fi router again.
  5. Perform a Factory reset.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I am using Google Chrome on macOS Mojave running on my MacBook Air.  The Google Chrome browser is Version 100.0.4896.127 (Official Build) (x86_64).  No antivirus running.  Tried reboot my chromecast, MacBook and router.  Sometime it worked and sometimes it didn't.  I even tried factory reset before but with no luck.

Thanks,

Lionking

Hey there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Try the additional steps below:

  1. Reinstall the Google Chrome browser.
  2. Try to download Chrome Canary and try to cast there.
  3. Check that the Google Chrome allowed to accept connections. To do this, see the steps below:
    1. On the top left corner, click the Apple icon.
    2. Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
    3. If the firewall is enabled, go to Firewall options (otherwise, skip the remaining steps).
    4. If Block all incoming connections is enabled, disable this setting, save the settings, reboot Google Chrome (completely exit and then open the browser), and try again.
    5. If Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections is enabled, then make sure that there is not an entry for Google Chrome in the application list.
    6. If Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections is not enabled, click the + button > navigate to Google Chrome in Applications > select it.
  4. Disabling the Bonjour service (if installed) may help find the Chromecast device. You will need to change the Bonjour service properties so that its startup type is set to disabled, and then reboot the computer. (Bonjour is installed by some Apple apps (Example: iTunes). Get more information about Bonjour.

Thanks,

Jennifer
