This happens across all apps some more than others.
I am using the Google TV interface.
This was not an issue with the Chromecast 3rd gen when I cast from my iphone.

Hi folks,
I'm sorry for the late response. This has been forwarded to the team and they're looking into this. I'll loop back in once we have an update about this.
Best,
Jennifer

Thanks. I might give it a try later today. I'll report back.

Does anyone know if CC 4K ever worked correctly? Some are suggesting it deteriorated after an update. Mine has been bad since I bought it a few months ago. I've also noticed that the image coloring and definition on CC is inferior to the inbuilt Samsung (Tizen) streaming apps when switching back and forth while testing. Maybe the old CC hardware is just not up to it.

It was pretty much perfect until it got its most recent major Android update. Since then the frame rate has been periodically problematic in some apps.
01-02-2024 02:18 AM
You found any atleast temporary solutions?

Google does not care - take the money and run seems to be the core principle of their business concept

Many (many) month later, no official fix. You hope miracle with Android 14 like me? Sweet dreams.
Not try hw overlay for now.
Whatch Disney plus is ugly on my gccwgtv.
01-02-2024 01:13 PM
I disabled hw overlay and now it works fine.
01-09-2024 01:13 AM
I did the same but it reverts when you cut power to the CC. The Dolby plus fix works for me at the moment....
01-16-2024 11:03 PM
I know but it fix the problem atleast...
02-24-2024 05:31 PM
I have similar problem with stuttering with projector but the fix was to turn "frame rate matching" to non-seamless. This fixed the stuttering. Haven't tried the developer overlays option. turning it off or on seamless causes stuttering. I suggest this.

Whenever using my Google Chromecast 4K with Google TV, I notice something best described as judder or frame drops in scenes where there is a lot of motion, like panning shots. I started noticing it when using the F1 TV app, either on the Chromecast itself, or casting from another device to the CC. As there are a lot of panning shots in Formula 1 streams and a lot of other motion, it is really annoying to watch.
Initially, I thought it had to do with the WiFi speed behind my TV, so I bought the ethernet adapter for Chromecast with Google TV from the Google Store. It didn’t help. I have a 1 Gbps fiber connection and streaming 4K HDR content on Netflix, Amazon or other streaming apps I can use on my LG TV, all have brilliant quality without any issues. But when using similar apps on my Google Chromecast, I have stuttering, judder, frame drops or however I should call it.
I tried a lot of other things besides buying the ethernet adapter, like changing the resolution on the CC, changing the frame rate and using another HDMI port on my LG TV. I also tried all kinds of settings on my TV. And I did factory resets on both the TV and the CC. Nothing helps.
After doing a lot of research on the internet, I am pretty convinced I am by far the only person experiencing these issues. Disappointing that Google still sells a device that apparently isn’t working as it should…
If anyone, including Google itself, has a permanent and working solution for this issue, please let me know!
10-20-2023 09:55 PM
I am also having the same issue. Getting frame rate juddering/frame drops. Looks like this issue existed a year ago which was fixed, but then the issue returned after an update. here is a post about it in '22
The issue is not about apps, network or settings about CC. It is about Google and their software updates, they need to fix it. I'm considering getting a Nvidia shield or something else.
10-27-2023 02:51 AM
Nvidia Shield has been plagued with similar issues, as its own Android updates have rolled out.
I know from experience: we purchased one back in March to save us from the Chromecast problems. It was great for a while, but it didn't last.
01-16-2024 11:01 PM
Actually theres a way to fix it, the only way you can fix it so far is by disable HW overlay from developer setting (every time you restart chromecast it enables again so you have to re disable it)😁
02-26-2024 09:38 AM
Thanks @Stef1911 ! This has helped resolve my issue with juddering and stuttering 😉
01-10-2024 08:08 PM
"I am by far the only person"
I think that might be a typo, where you meant "I am far from the only person".
Loads of people experiencing this problem, but apparently not enough are complaining for Google to take any notice.
01-16-2024 11:01 PM
Disable HW overlay from developer setting it fixes the problem so far😃
01-19-2024 12:04 AM
I found a solution for my problem with Plex app on Chromecast here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/18nt9qn/sudden_choppy_playbackskipped_frames_on/
As suggested, disabling HW overlay in Developer settings fixed the playback for me.

Dear Google, Allmost 2 years and not a single solution !!!! I am grateful I can return your product back to the shop I bought it and I will never touch your products again !!! Brand new Chromecast with Android TV 4K and none of the streaming apps is able to play a smoth video....NONE !!!
01-19-2024 03:32 AM
When I spoke to support about this the other day they didn't listen to the fact I had a fix and that it was documented on this forum (I sent them the link). I was told that it was my internet!
01-19-2024 04:13 AM
That is the way .....the google way. Always blame the user, asume the product is perfect. Be glad that they didn't ask you to have your eyes checked or something....
01-19-2024 04:41 AM
Haha! One thing to try is changing the audio settings. Disabling Dolby Plus helps a little bit again it's silly we have to find workarounds when an update can be pushed...
01-19-2024 04:46 AM
Soon google will release an update that applies all workarounds that you can find here.
None of this works well in my case so this is still useless piece of plastic and electronic....
01-19-2024 09:34 AM
Disable HW overlay from developer setting, its the only thing that works.
01-19-2024 09:43 AM
Matching the content framerate and the displayrate works too.
01-20-2024 05:49 AM
Thank you for writing, but it does not work for me......same microstutter with HW overlay disabled
02-08-2024 05:52 PM
Try setting to 4.4.4 8 bit to see if it helps remove the stutter
01-24-2024 09:41 PM
For you maybe but not for everyone. It's not a fix, it's a dodgy workaround that works only for some folk but not for everyone.

Google **bleep** us, last hope is Android 14, since Android 12, I hate my google 4K device.
before, very happy but since the end of 2022, disappointing

I joined the Nest community when I started to have issues. and today I got this:
Thank you, Google 💘 for the new badge and for not solving issues...

Im with Arpagica - I’ve tried disabling the audio setting suggested, played with the matching frame rate settings, and disabled HW overlay and still have a noticeable stutter. I’m very familiar with Google support as I had an issue with their nest Wi-Fi, constantly dropping and having to restart the whole system. They blame the user, the house, and everything but the product. After a year and a half of people complaining on boards they finally fixed it. so I’m assuming they’re gonna take the same approach here. But it’s pretty brutal. It doesn’t do the one thing it’s supposed to.

hey everyone!
I just noticed that if you leave this window open on desktop for a while, you get a popup that ask you if you got the answers you wanted.
Since google is obviously not reading this forum anymore, maybe another part of google is reading the replies to the mini-survey! Escalate this! 😃

The year 2024 and this is still an issue.
01-30-2024 11:23 AM - edited 01-30-2024 11:26 AM
New update and STILL the same problem. Only worse now because when I enter settings the whole app crashes before I can reach system settings. Thus, no fix available for me.
Edit: managed to reach developer settings to disable HW overlay which still seems to be a fix
01-30-2024 10:37 PM
I made an update yesterday, but it didn't fix anything. Disabling the HW overlay does not solve anything. in my case
01-31-2024 05:46 AM
Keep in mind the setting resets after the device restarts. So you will have to disable it again.
01-31-2024 05:59 AM
So, I tried to set it and tested it on HBO The Big Bang Theory random episode, for me on my 4K UE55KU6470 ([TV] Samsung 6 Series (55)) feel like 15 FPS.
So not using this crap and switched to Nvidia Shield or even better to the Samsung Tizen app
Maybe it is ok on HD I do not have time to test it for Google,
02-09-2024 03:59 AM
I realize that here is a misunderstanding.
The option "desable HW overlays" in developer options needs to be enabled!
It solves all the issues with stuttering and frame skipping, confirmed!
