This happens across all apps some more than others.
I am using the Google TV interface.
This was not an issue with the Chromecast 3rd gen when I cast from my iphone.

Hi folks,
I'm sorry for the late response. This has been forwarded to the team and they're looking into this. I'll loop back in once we have an update about this.
Best,
Jennifer

Have been experiencing the stutter issue ever since Android 12, is there any way that the device can be downgraded? For my use case the device is practically unusable in in current state.
A downgrade to an earlier version of Android until a permanent fix is issued seems like a logical thing to offer one's customers....

I have the same issue, any news about an update?

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating frame rate stutter with your Chromecast on Google TV, and it's causing disruptions across various apps. It's particularly bothersome since it wasn't an issue with your previous Chromecast model when casting from your iPhone. It's as if trying to access of a castle but constantly finding the drawbridge jammed halfway. Hopefully, Google addresses this issue soon, so you can smoothly navigate your entertainment realm without encountering such jarring interruptions.

Hi,
Has anyone come up with a definitive solution to this problem, that doesn't involve changing a hidden feature each time the device is switched on?
Is it a certain version of the hardware, and would a replacement unit fix it?
Surely not everyone that has one of these devices experiences the choppy playback or no-one would use them. I find the problem makes most content unwatchable.
After two previous Chromecasts that worked flawlessly (including one that was the very first released) I can't believe there is not a way to get a Chromecast with Google TV that actually works.
I filled in the form a while back, @JenniferV , but have not heard anything since.
Any thoughts and suggestions gratefully received.
Steve

You won’t hear back. That’s not how google support works. It’ll be radio silence and then without notice they’ll issue an update that’ll solve the problem but it could be a while. This is exactly what happened with google wifi a while back. Major stability and connectivity issues. They refused to admit it was a known issue and then after 1.5 years it was fixed.
I’m also not confident all users experience the issue because it seems to be application based, at least in part. Through certain apps it’s unwatchable, others it’s fine. At least for me.

Disabling HW Overlays has helped, but it's still choppy occasionally. Just not good enough really. Just sitting tight for a fix doesn't seem great. I'd happily purchase a new unit if I thought it would help, but I see people who have purchased in the past week or so are having problems with theirs. All a bit rubbish really. For me it happens in enough applications to make me think that it would be hard to avoid.

I'm guessing it's being run out. The standard store price is now about half of what it was when I purchased about a year ago. I do agree that it would be strange if the majority of users were not bothered by the choppiness.

My use of the Chromecast has been less intensive since I bought a TV, but my solution has been to leave it powered and use the developer settings fix, and I think it's been good enough since then.
Having experienced disastrous WiFi problems with the native software on a brand new LG OLED TV, so bad that ultimately I ran ethernet cable, the CC stutter problem seems a little less egregious in contrast. I just had to change the way it was powered, and the problem was largely fixed.

Why is it marked as resolved if it isn't?

I really want to enjoy a good alternative like the Google TV with remote and apps on the device + stream capability, with real 4K, 60FPS (or more) 4:4:4, HDR, Dolby Atmos, etc WITHOUT stutters! and Android compatible 😉

Someone should make a class action lawsuit against this device. It's one of the worst pieces of hardware I've ever had. Zero support from Google as well. Seriously pathetic

The entire enterprise was built on the model of monetizing users data. Not how to build a solid product with customer service. They could give a s$&$. I’ve bought the wifi and this and I am never, never buying google hardware again.
Read burn book by Kara Swisher. Turns out it was all about the money.

On the bright side, I was about to switch to a Pixel phone, but the experience with Google support changed my mind. So the cost of this poor quality device maybe saved me future trouble.

Has anyone figured out how to get a refund for this BS.

As well as this forum, I opened a ticket with Google. I persisted while their bots dished up irrelevant info and later their humans tried to fob me off. In the end they told me to try a different 4K TV and closed the ticket.
I did try returning to the store but they wouldn't take it back, saying it was not faulty, just a low quality product.

Is the new update made any difference to someone?

My CC has no more shutter since I updated it to the lastest fw

Can you share what version you are currently on and which device you have?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi all. I have very positive information. I received software update to STTE.240315.002.11695351. It seem, that everything was fixed. Every streaming platforms now works without stuttering. Before factory reset and also after factory reset. Unbelievable. After such a long time. Almost one and half year!
Subjectively, the Chromecast seems to heat up less now as well.
05-26-2024 08:53 AM
I already have this update, but for me it's not fixed at all.
05-26-2024 08:56 AM
Try doing a factory reset.
05-26-2024 08:58 AM
Go to check for latest update if you haven't done it. If you already have the latest update, try a restart or in worst case scenario try factory reset.

I already did, but not a factory reset. Will try that tomorrow. Thanks for giving the options. Much appreciated.

Cheers mate

I wanted to write that yesterday but couldn't find the section in the forum, geeez... it is fixed, I confirm. I used to enable the "disable HW overlays" now I completely disabled the developer tools, restarted the device and works flawlessly.
05-27-2024 01:59 AM
Not fixed! Still sometimes happening after fast forward.
05-27-2024 02:08 AM
I checked it, it doesn't happened to me. Maybe it's an isolated event that happened to you or if you try to do it against does not happen, or maybe it is not fixed indeed for your device. Not possible to know 100%
05-27-2024 02:20 AM
I did force the update and tested it with 2 apps which always gave me problems if I didn't Disabling HW Overlay.
Everything works finally fine now!
05-27-2024 08:33 AM
As the one who started this thing back in (checks calendar) November 2022, it is good to see that it seems to work now for most of us. But man, Google is too big to care about this stuff. Epic customer service fail. Anyway, close file.

If you are a South African who resides in the country, you have probably heard the use of the word UK49s by players who reside in South Africa and other Southern African countries. It is also a very popular search term globally.

I can still reproduce the frame stutter with the following combination:
+ Chromecast Google TV HD
+ Disney Plus
+ Cast a programme (not hapoening on the app)
I the disabled the HW overlays, and playback was smooth after that.

It seems some people have had some good success recently. I’ll have to test it again. It was only under certain apps.
That said, I had, and continue to have, massive issues with google’s nest wifi so I’m completely off google hardware, period. Big issues with 0 support - it’s always the user or their environment and never the hardware, according to google.

This may have been mentioned in this thread but have people tried to manually change the fps? I was having a horrible time with this and the overlay helped but didn’t solve the problem with a few apps. I read the match frame rate option is dependent on the app to signal the change, which many don’t, so you have to manually change it. I went from 1080p at 60fps to 24fps and bingo. No stutter. It was always app specific and it’s a pain to have to switch it but at least I’ve found my culprit. Not sure this will help anyone else but I thought I’d throw it out there.
This all said, it’s a sports tv app and watching sports at 24fps is brutal. But that’s on the app.
07-09-2024 06:26 PM
It's fixed now by google.
07-09-2024 06:29 PM
That’s a sweeping call as mine still stutters. So it may be working for others but any fixes they’ve applied have not helped me. If I watch TSN it’s super choppy and 60fps. But at 24fps its isn’t.
