New Google TV Steamer does not support Deinterlacing. Due to this, deinterlacing does not work in videos! This is very sad.
I remember this problem was on the first Nvidia Shield 2019 firmware, but that was 5 years ago! Do Google developers really not know such basic things?
If the Google TV Streamer software developers are reading this, please add support for deinterlacing video.

Today the update arrived. Deinterlacing was not added! This is just unbelievable! I'm shocked!
Four months of waiting - all this way for nothing!

It seems that the selected deinterlacing mode is incorrect. The image appears as if it's being filtered using "discard" or "blend" methods rather than "Yadif 2x."

Hey all,
A fix was recently rolled out for the issues affecting some users when viewing interlaced content, however we are aware of the reports from folks still experiencing issues. If you're still having problems while viewing content that's interlaced, we would love additional details.
If you could leave a reply to this comment with the following information, it would be greatly appreciated. And if there are other details you think would be important for the team to know about your usage, feel free to include. Thank you in advance!
Please share as many specific details about the content you're trying to view, including:
- Type of content (specific titles is very helpful)
- What app or channel is the content on?
- What is the country of origin for the content?

How is it possible even with the update released today it is still not fixed? How is this possible???
01-30-2025 09:46 AM
Did anyone get an update yet to fix this?
01-31-2025 08:03 AM
No. Everyone is waiting.
02-10-2025 11:46 PM
Just got the update. Now fixed

Any news so far?
I got the TV streamer about 4 weeks ago and the interlacing problem especially with fast sport scenes (tennis, soccer) is ridiculous - you will get sick watching it more than a few seconds. Please Google, be honest - is there any way to repair it with a software update within the next days/weeks?
02-02-2025 10:32 PM
They fixed it. We are waiting for a firmware update.
02-02-2025 11:05 PM
So nothing new. Can take days, weeks or months...

I don't want to believe that😭
02-10-2025 11:48 PM
Fixed it foe me
02-11-2025 12:35 AM
Interesting, for me it's not working either
02-11-2025 01:47 AM
I use Tivimate and now have no interlacing issues.
02-11-2025 01:50 AM
I use tivimate too. What the heck 😁
02-11-2025 01:20 AM
No surprise really?
02-11-2025 01:37 AM
Does it work for you? I wonder why some people in here report it working
02-11-2025 02:12 AM
De-Interlacing seems to be working here with the fix.
Maybe results differ with different stream types? I'm testing with German broadcasts using h264/AVC, 1080i50.
02-11-2025 03:15 AM
Strange for me it doesn't.
02-11-2025 04:07 AM
I think those who write that the problem is fixed after today's update, they do not understand what we are talking about, and how it should be when everything is fine.
02-11-2025 06:20 AM

Yes, it looks like you're right. There are changes, the stairs have been removed using filters, but there is no frames generation.
02-11-2025 04:09 PM
I understand it very well. I had several test videos ready for this purpose. I have 2 boxes, one with the update and one without. The difference is night and day. So definitely fixed for me.
02-11-2025 03:52 AM
The problem still exists and it's not fixed for me wit the recent update 😞

I returned the streamer in October mainly due to the non existent communication from Google on the issue. I have contacted Tivimate support and they rely on hardware deinterlacing to be working at the OS level. You will not need to change any settings in Tivimate to get deinterlacing working on the streamer. It either works, or it doesn't.

This is still not fixed even after the update. I use hdhomerun and it's awful! And any of my 1080i shows look terrible.
What an epic fail for a "streaming" device
02-11-2025 04:12 PM
I cannot help but find the release timing the day after the Superbowl a bit ironic (ie, the most watched sports show that exemplifies this issue). I'm away at the moment but excited to try the update when I have a chance!
02-11-2025 11:58 PM
After updating to the latest patch, not only is the interlaced scanning problem not solved, but the live stream that was originally playing normally now becomes abnormally laggy, and the manifestation is picture delay. Does anyone else have this problem?
02-12-2025 12:14 AM
I suggest that folks having issues state their use case. For example HDHomeRun > Tivimate. Can you provide information on the source stream also, e.g. MPEG-4 1080i25
02-13-2025 05:04 PM
I looked on HdHomeRun and can't find that information anywhere. Though it's really not relevant nor is it up to us the customer to be figuring this out for a multi trillion pound company that has employee's that can do this leg work.
It's still not fixed, simple as that. Google, fix this mess! There is no excuse.
02-14-2025 01:15 AM
You will need to find out what way your Over the Air broadcasts are being transmitted in your area. Yes, it is not relevant, but at this stage it might be useful for others to know that it is not working for you in Hdhomerun directly. Others might be using Tivimate or similar to connect to their Hdhomerun server to view interlaced TV streams.
02-14-2025 06:43 AM
Well how do I find that out? It's just Freeview. It works perfectly on all other devices via HdHomeRun no issues.
02-15-2025 04:01 AM - edited 02-15-2025 04:02 AM
If it is Freeview then it is MPEG-4 1080i25
02-18-2025 05:13 PM
Thank you
02-14-2025 01:11 PM
Any news?
02-15-2025 02:11 AM
Same as for most - upgrade did not resolve the issue. Deinterlacing still doesn’t work. Ridiculous…
02-17-2025 06:26 AM
Re tested the Interlaced media.
The broadcast is 1080i h264 DVB-T2 over HTSP (TVheadend). Till date this doesn't work still.
Kodi with TVheadend Add On for PVR
@Ashepherdson any updates? The tv streams that are interlaced works well on my previous Chromecast with Google TV.
02-17-2025 12:40 PM
@Ashepherdson when will this finally be fixed?
02-18-2025 05:00 PM
See post from Google below, they need more information, specifics about what exactly you are using (hardware, software, etc)..what exactly you are trying to view .. source , etc..

Software: Kodi with TVHeadend add on for OTA TV Streaming
Viewing: Live TV Stream. DVB-T2 Terrestrial content. X264 TS Stream 1080i
Hardware: Google TV streamer

Type of content is OTA Freeview MPEG-4 1080i25 via HDHOMERUN, it affects literally every single channel. I reside in the UK.
It also affects any 1080i/720i downloaded content I play via Plex. Also using my HDHOMERUN via the Plex app, is also affected.
Really not sure why this is taking so long to fix, any old crappy firestick or Roku handles interlaced content perfectly. Even the old Chromecast and shield.
