I am also getting the same error

I am also getting the same problem from yesterday dated 09032025

Driving me demented but I now know it’s not my own chrome cast that is the problem even though it is old .

Would be polite for Google to at least explain and rectify asap

This is so bad. Such a big company and no fix yet since yesterday

Same problem since yesterday.  Factory reset didn't help.  Cannot connect. Cannot add again to Google home.

From India, same issue

Same problem, done all troubleshooting including reset, router config, old version of google home setup, nothing works

Germany, same issue . 2 different messages

1. Couldn't authenticate Chromecast

2. communication with Chromecast not successfull

Go to your phones settings and manually set the date to before the 9th and it'll work. Whatever update was set from the 9th won't let ya cast but before it on the phone is fine.

Yes, I set my phone to 03072025 and it let me connect it.

Yes it worked

Same issue. Wish i found this before factory resetting my chromecast.  What did they do?

Same problem here, but I have 2 Chromecasts 2nd Generation and 4th Generation, and only have a problem with the 2nd Gen one. What about everyone else? Perhaps this is specific to an older gen.

Same problem. I hope they fix it asap

why have Google not put a message out there to explain the problem and how long before it is fixed???

Same issue here from Greece!

Same also in Germany

I have the same issue with Gen2.

Casting is not working for more than 24 hours.

After factory reset I receive Chromecast cant authenticae both on Andorid and Iphone OS.

google suc...

Hey  same here with my chromecast and Android. Any solution yet?

Same!! Very annoying and disappointing

I am having the same problem......ca

Just adding to the list of users affected. Was fine until yesterday. Reset does not solve

I have try with IOS and Android and showing the same error! Hopefully they can fix the issue!! I even talk with my provider to check my modem router settings and is set properly. and checking this topic , its seems to be is a general issue with these devices .

Also having this exact message popped up, used it last week no issues, tried Sunday to connect and nothing! Factory reset, everything on troubleshooting, different devices, no luck. Tried again tonight after leaving it unplugged for an hour, and still nothing.

And I thought its only me. 2 days ago was everything fine and I have checked all the possible reasons just to find out that I have only wasted my time.

I'm still seeing the error message as well. Worked on it a bit yesterday, then did a factory reset. Just tried again, and it's still not working.

Same issue, did factory reset can't authenticate.

I've been experiencing this same issue since yesterday. I literally thought the same as everyone else:

It was just me

My Chromecast was old and outdated

I broke something...

Glad to see I was wrong on all accounts but would LOVE to get answers.

Hey Google! What is going on with Chromecast??

Same here are you reading this Google

I found a response from GoogleNestTeam Admin on another thread that was posted 8 hours ago. GoogleNestTeam response can be found here.  It says the following:

Hello,

We're aware of an emerging issue impacting Chromecast 2nd gen and Chromecast Audio devices, and we are working on a fix.

Do not factory reset your device - we will keep you all updated when the fix rolls out. If you have already factory reset your device, we will provide instructions to set your device back up as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

I have the same problem starting on Sunday March 9th.

Same! It worked just fine on Saturday. On Sunday it said to update firmware and today (Monday) i did a factory reset and still nothing.

My Chromecast won't connect either or authenticate Good to know I'm not the only one but very sad for Google not good if I need to I'll buy another product definitely not Google

Same here. All three devices in the house dropped at the same time in this timeframe. No suggested fixes worked.

Dear Google.....my chromecast is not working anymore.  I've trusted you for years, but not my heart hurt in disappointment.  I can't believe that it won't authenticate.  Why are you denying me?

I have been trying for two days now.  Even switched to a newer TV and Chromecast.  Nothing is working.

Pls, see this msg from Google Nest Team:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Regarding-an-issue-with-Chromecast-2nd-gen-and-Chro...

We need keep complaining since this problem should not had happened that way and must be fixed "as soon as all the huge resources Google have".

As I had commented on that post, I had already factory reset my device, as I think millions did since those were the previous instructions. That also shouldn't had happened.I

I'll post here any new information that I may receive. Pls, do the same and let me know ("tag me"), tks.

I also factory reset my chromecast. But I manually set my phone’s date before March 9, 2025 as someone's instruction, I did use the Google Home app to set up Chromecast again. My device is on the google home, but still can not cast anything.

Got the same error message here in Toronto. Suddenly can't cast yesterday around 11:00am. Tried factory reset and reinstall the Google Home but still not working. What's happening?

POSSIBLE TEMPORARY FIX:

It appears that someone at Google overlooked updating the essential certificate files for the Chromecast (2nd Gen) and Chromecast Audio, which is possibly causing the problem. One Redditor claims that the intermediate certificate authority for the Chromecasts (2nd gen) expired on March 9, 2025. Due to this, Google's servers are not validating these devices.
