Same problem here. Can't authenticate chromecast. Neither the chromecast for the tv or the chromecast audio. I reset all chromecasts multiple times and even reset my wifi and google home account. Still no luck.

Telling people to not reset devices to factory settings came far too late for the majority of us!
You sat by for almost a day before issuing any statement. What do you people do all at???
And still no fix for anyone.
03-10-2025 01:58 PM
But where you can find it. I did reset already, its not working for 2days now
03-10-2025 01:59 PM
Please provide another update
03-10-2025 12:50 PM
After a day of issue in setup that needs to be authenticated, some how it manage to overcome that but now it is unable to connect to a wifi using an iphone to setup.
03-10-2025 01:47 PM
I also get a unable to authenticate Chromecast message
03-10-2025 01:59 PM
Cuando el Chromecast dejó de funcionar anoche, hice lo que el centro de ayuda de Google recomendaba, entre otras cosas reiniciarlo. Ahora leo en el hilo que Google comenta que si se reinicia a lo mejor no se soluciona... Menuda gracia.

Hi dracarolrocha,
Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry you're having trouble casting to your Chromecast. I understand how frustrating that can be, and I'm here to help.
To help us troubleshoot effectively, could you please provide the following information?
What Chromecast model do you have?
What operating system is your phone or tablet running (Android, iOS, etc.)?
What version of the Google Home app are you using?
When you say it "shows images," what exactly do you see on your TV screen? (e.g., Chromecast backdrop, error message)
Is the Chromecast plugged directly into a wall outlet, or is it powered by the TV's USB port?
How far is the Chromecast from your Wi-Fi router?
Are you using the same Google account in the Google Home app that was used to set up the Chromecast?
I look forward to your response so we can get this resolved.
Regards,
Kevin

help?

I am having the same issue. Its the 2nd gen chromecast that I've had since 2017. It has been plugged into my tv via hdmi and gets it's power from the usb A slot on the TV. It connects to the wifi and shows the rotating pictures, weather info and time at the bottom right on my TV. The issue is I cannot cast from my android phone or windows computer that I've been using flawlessly to connect with for years. For instance, when I attempt to cast from youtube an error pops up and says "Den TV (name I gave it) couldn't be verified. This could be caused by outdated firmware." I checked the firmware that Google Home is saying that it has for the chromecast as being up to date according to Google's firmware page (vers: 1.56.275994). Google Home says that the chromecast is offline.

I'm having the same exact issue. I think the may have discontinued support for the gen 2 chromecast. Gen 1 support was officially discounted. Mines was working fine then 30 mins later it stopped.

I am also having the same issue with almost the same system setup. I have restarted everything and uninstalled/reinstalled chrome but still get the same error. I wish there had been a response with something helpful to offer.

The same thing is happening with me. Chromecast 2nd gen, IOS, just updated google home, It was showing images from chromecast being plugged in, until I reset the system. I have turn off my phone, the wifi. TV is plugged into wall. I am 5-10 feet away from router and TV. I am using the same account I set it up with a few years ago. I have checked my app to make sure it shows location network and bluetooth are enabled in the app. I continued to get the TV may be set up, but could not communicate with it from your iphone.
03-09-2025 03:09 PM
same thing. Suddenly was unable to connect from apps or Home.
After factory reset not able to set it up again

Same problem here, since today, with 2 Chromecast 2nd Gen (that worked flawlessly for years, In 2 different homes) until yesterday. Fed by usb-power-adapters, plugged in in hdmi-Port of both tv's, still showing default screen saver nature pictures, weather and date/time. On setup with Home-app "device can not be authenticated" and Home-app demands location-rights which it gets but keeps asking for. Netither my chromebooks nor chrome browsers nor apps offer display on chromecasts any more. Did Google drop support on 2nd Gen Chromecasts or just screwed up an update of Chromecast or of the Home-app? Very sudden, weird and unpleasant experience.
03-09-2025 05:48 PM
I truly hope they resolve the issue. I don't need some over bloated device trying to do too much. I just want to be able to cast from YouTube, Prime and my laptop. It worked so well for so long.

@Chromecast @falla

bonjour je n'arrive à me connecter à mon chromecast
03-10-2025 08:23 AM

Chromecast is connected to my router, but it won’t work from my iPad. When I go to Google Home app, the screen displays “Get the app” and I cannot get rid of it. I’m already in the Home app, so why is it telling me to get the app? I have no idea which generation of Chromecast I have. How do you tell?
