Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

I own more than 8 Google devices and Google if you think I'll not change my services because the investment?

I will get new devices and move with another streaming service system.

Dear all, since Sunday no connection with Wifi possible, of course we did reset starts numerous times, due to absolutely no messages from Google online, that it might be an issue, which Google started off with not keeping licenses up to date. Friendly telephone customer service agent told me how at least to get the device back on the Google home. But still offline. Maybe it is time to offer other solutions. (Send over a different working device by courier?) … Or how long is it going to take to fix it?

Set the date in your phone back to 8th march manually, then go to the google home app and look for a new device and select your chromecast and follow the steps. It’s not working afterwards but it has WiFi connection again and is on the home app, but offline. Now we all have to wait for a solution, like an update from google.

Got told to set the date back to before 9.March, then it worked, but it is still offline, authentification not possible, cannot connect to wifi.

Like I said, they have to fix it. In the home app it’s offline, but it is connected as you can see on the screensaver when you turn it on. So it can get the update bug fix when they start to roll it out.

Yeah I tried setting date back with still no change to be able to reinstall on the Google home app. An having the same issue with my Google nest kitchen display also.

Buongiorno, improvvisamente la chromecast non comunica più con il telefono.

Ho provato a resettarla e a reinstallare l'applicazione Google Home ma la configurazione non va a buon fine.

L'applicazione durante la ricerca trova il dispositivo chromecast  ma al momento dell'associazione si interrompe (quando sul televisore appaiono i codici).

LEggo che è un problema di molti.

Chiedo aiuto per favore...grazie

Stesso problema. Ho contattato Google e mi hanno detto ci stanno lavorando e di attendere. Comunque è un problema attenzionato. Speriamo che si sbrighino 🤞

Il problema è presente dal 09/03/2025 per la scadenza di certificati, ho aperto tre segnalazioni ma nessuno mi ha mai risposto, comunque il problema riguarda tutte le Chromecast di seconda generazione (in commercio dal 2015).

Anch'io come molti, non avendo informazioni, ho ripristinato la configurazione di fabbrica e mi falliva la riconfigurazione per "impossibile autenticare il dispositivo", se vuoi puoi risolverlo modificando la data del cellulare a una data prima del 09/03, ma ti permette solo di riconfigurare la chromecast, per la visione in streeming permangono le difficoltà. Speriamo risolvano presto ....

Mi aggiungo alle vostre segnalazioni, anche a me i messaggi che compaiono sono del tipo "impossibile autenticare il dispositivo chromecast". Speriamo risolvano in fretta

Untrusted device Hall TV couldn't be verified. This could be caused by outdated device firmware.

Since few days we are facing issues with Chromecast while setting up the device after Reset, "It is not getting authenticated successfully". I am using this device since 2018, why authentication problem is arising now?. I have reviewed all the recent community posts, many people are facing the similar issues. What google is trying to re-invent with these devices now?

Toujours le même problème depuis dimanche à 18h. Impossible d'authentifier le chromecast. Cela devient vraiment très pénible. Espérons que Google gère le problème et qu'une solution nous sera apportée dans la journée...

After installing a new router (freebox ultra vs freebox revolution) and resetting Chromecast video gen 2 and follow google help advice's, nothing work, authentication fails ....HELP

Stesso problema. Domenica Chromecast ha smesso di funzionare. Dopo tanti tentativi ho fatto il reset di fabbrica e durante la configurazione il codice che compare sulla tv poi non compare sull'app Home sul cellulare e dopo un pò mi da questo errore ("impossibile autenticare dispositivo Chromecast"). Una vergogna!

I was prepared to e-waste the thing after it was bricked by whatever your unintended update to google home and or Android OS for my Samsung.   I have a Linux based Server/Router and I was able to tell the device had a valid IP address and Hardware address and appeared to have the requisite ports to work.  The frustration is there is no diagnostic software to verify the kind of issue that caused the issue.  Had I had that I would then been to interrogate the Chromecast and have an error code and/or a message stating the hardware was ok, but the issues was elsewhere.   I could then wait for an update.  As a result of no really meaningful diagnostic SW I reset the Chromecast and went through the Google Home byzantine software on my Android phone connecting directly to (via Chromecast network) only to wait for failure to communicate to the Chomecast.   The Software connects successfully, then after about around several minutes of the silly graphics churning and then "the you lose" message comes up.

While setting up Chromecast after factory reset I found message that Chromecast authentication problem. Why authentication is not done? What is solution to authenticate my Chromecast device to setup it. I several times contact Google to call but nobody is calling. Any idea to authenticate my device?

I have the same issue from Sunday and they said me that engineers are working ti solve the problem.

Same issue with chromecast not working since yesterday. I tried my old one and same thing. Did a factory reset and now it can't authenticate. I can see the Code in the screen but the app doesnt let authenticate. Wasting so much time.
