No harm in trying that, or you can just leave it plugged in overnight and check tomorrow. It'll happen, I promise. You'll know when it's installing the update, cool animation.

Mine didn’t work

I promise, it works. Some have reported multiple attempts required.

I did this but it won't link my cast still

Re-read, try again.

Issue fixed. Thanks Johnny!

It's working.Thank you😊

On my iPhone I cannot change time zone as the Set automatically toggle switch is greyed out. Tried turning of time zone too, but I am not able to reset date and time. I am frustrated that now two things are not working. My chrome cast and the date and time setting on my phone.

try to use any android phone or tablet or borrow one for 10 mins.

you don't need to change timezone. just bring time to any day in Feb should fix it

Yes, some cell phone carriers stupidly lock down this setting on their phones. Borrow a friend's smartphone or tablet and use it to re-setup your Chromecast.

After I added my Chromecast back to the Home app, the update process started as the final step of the setup, and now everything works as before. Thanks!

This did not work for me. While the chromecast device connected to my phone, it would not connect to any of the routers in my home.

Thank you

Você é um gênio, obrigado deu certo aqui!

Legend! They really should've pinned this! I could've had my chromecast sorted yesterday instead of p***ing about waiting for Google to fix it

Muchas gracias 🙂

Thank you Johnny, I followed your advice sent through that link and it work! My Chromecast 2nd gen is finally working after 1 week. Thanks again ❤️

This worked fine for me, Thanks!

Yes

Thank you for the reply. I wasn’t sure if this was for real when I saw it explained on forums the other day. I did this and it worked! I hope it continues to work as well. Thank you!

Of course it will continue to work. The date workaround is simply a one-time-only trick to initially get past the expired security certificate and get your Chromecast re-setup and back online.

Hi, Home app won't find my Chromecast device at all, stuck on "searching devices" over and over. I did change the date to March 7. This did not help, Home app still can't find my device at all.

Hmmmm. Maybe try power-cycling your Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable)? If that doesn't work, then maybe try another factory reset - long-press button.

complimenti a te grazie

Solução imediata e eficaz, muito obrigado?👍

Doesn't connect to the wifi, rest every procedure worked

Won't add chromecast as new device.

Doesn't allow me to add the device to my android.

Thank you this solution worked Once the Chromecast connected to Wi-Fi. It got updated and the issue is resolved. Thank you so much. This was a very simple solution and very effective. I am wondering why Google is not able to give this simple solution.

Total negligence on the part of Google. They should be better organize and know when something is going  to expire. If everybody who has been affected by this problem took them to court and sued them perhaps they would pay more attention in the future. I bought my Chromecast it is mine Google hasn't got the right to switch it off even if they decide after 10 years that they don't want to support it anymore I should still be able to use my property. Everybody should let them know just how disappointed we are with their treatment of their clients

I find it disgusting that they would put it a product that replaces my product for $130. I bought my Chromecast for 35 bucks. now they stopped supporting it. they pushing update that helps some people but anybody who did a factory reset and has had issues in the past like I have where a factory reset fixes it is out of luck? produce a fix Google or I'm going to just get an Amazon fire for every room

How can I reconnect the device to WiFi without completing a factory reset? My device will not connect to WiFi since the issue was identified. I've tried unplugging the device to reset the device.
