You have to trick the software.
Just reset the date to pre the 9th of march on your phone/tablet. Start the installation proces. Reconnect to your wifi. And your Chromecast is back on line. For me it worked fine. Good luck.
Don't forget to reset the date to present day.
03-13-2025 05:54 PM
Wait! I turned off my wifi, changed the date manually to March 7, turned Wi-Fi on. Set up Chromecast and still not working. What did I miss?
03-13-2025 11:43 PM
Now you have to wait for the fix/update from Google. Which is automatically going to be uploaded. Because now your Chromecast is connected to your Wi-fi again. I live in the Netherlands and I recieved the update/fix yesterday, march the 13th. Have a great day. 🙏

Thank you for your help.
I tried changing the date on my phone but it's not prompting me to set up the device and connect to WiFi. Any other suggestions? I haven't completed a factory reset.

What about for those of us who assumed you had broken their current Chromecast and had already bought a new Google TV streamer to replace it? Will there be any compensation? I had an event where I needed Chromecast functionality so I had to pay for the streamer as my old one was broken. That's money I'd rather have not spent.

Cambia la fecha de tu teléfono para el 08/03 e haces de vuelta la conexión en Google home. Yo recién. Lo hice y me resultó

I did a factory reset not knowing I was supposed to. What do I do now?
03-13-2025 04:40 PM
For all the factory reset people who are freaking out and asking "what do I do now?":
1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 8 or earlier.
2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast. You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Also, you can change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.
3) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed.
Supposedly it's going to be a phased rollout, so it could take as long as several days for the firmware update to hit your device. Patience.
**Google really should pin this information to the top of this page.**
