Update 3/17/25:

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

If you resetted it like I did, just change your phone's date to March 8th or earlier and start the process of setting up your Chromecast from the Google Home app. Unfortunately, this still doesn't fix the casting issue, but it does leave you on the Chromecast wallpaper screen so it can receive the update.

What is going on with the Factory Reset fix?

FIX AFTER FACTORY RESET!!
Able to connect and update Chromecast after factory reset! This worked for me using iPhone;

Set date manually: Setting > general > Date & time, untick set automatically and change date to 7th March.

Using Google Home app connect Chromecast as a new device. This will prompt an update to the Chromecast.
Once updated, go back to Date & time settings and tick set automatically.

Happy streaming 🙂

Yay it worked! Thanks so much 💃

Would appreciate an update on when the fix is done. Please supply an approximation if nothing else.

Any news on the factory reset update? I have no tv!?

Any news for resolving if we have made a factory reset?

Thanks

please do it asap

@GoogleNestTeamprovide more details about how you resolved the issue, whether this will recur and by when. Due to numerous failures, e.g. your first Pixel table randomly locking up - failing to recognize my PIN (requiring hard reset) -, your Nest Camera failing to comply with Home/Away rules, and now negligently failing to update the required certificate(s) prior to their expiration,  I am losing trust in your hardware.

Luego, vuelve a intentarlo.

Google should compensate consumers for your mistakes.

Hi Team,

Any update on reset device.

Try to set your phone date to 7th march and setup your chromecast as usual.
