Hey Google Nest Community,

We understand just how valuable connections are in life, from family to friends to work. The stronger the connection, the stronger the foundation. And these days, the demands we put on our home Wi-Fi are bigger than ever. That’s why we’re excited to announce that Google Nest Wifi Pro with Wi-Fi 6E is now available for pre-order!

So what exactly is Wi-Fi 6E? As its name — 6 “Extended” — suggests, it's a big upgrade from Wi-Fi 6. While Wi-Fi 6 was built on the same heavily congested radio bands used by Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6E uses an entirely new (and less crowded) 6 GHz radio band.  As a result, 6E isn’t just faster than Wi-Fi 5, it offers speeds up to two times faster than Wi-Fi 6.* The first of our Wi-Fi routers to enable 6E, Nest Wifi Pro brings the power of true tri-band Wi-Fi into your home. It’s high performance Wi-Fi for the devices you use in your home today and is prepared to get you the most out of the next generation of phones, laptops and other devices operating on more advanced technology.

Nest Wifi Pro is all about providing a smarter, and simpler Wi-Fi experience that you can rely on, with the speed, coverage, and capacity you need to keep your devices connected.  It has network optimization intelligence that works in the background to keep everything fast, like by adjusting automatically to minimize issues if your ISP speeds drop.  It’s even smart enough to monitor, diagnose, and fix some common network issues itself.  With features like secure booting and automatic software updates that help against hacks, Nest Wifi Pro proactively keeps your network safe, too. It also has Thread border router built in and Matter capability (coming soon), making Nest Wifi Pro the perfect foundation for your connected home.

* Up to 2x faster as compared to a Wi-Fi 6 router that supports 80 MHz channels. Wi-Fi 6E specifications are based on use of a Wi-Fi 6 or later generation client device that supports 160 MHz channels. Actual speeds depend on your internet service provider, network conditions, connected device, local regulations and environmental factors. Additional routers may be needed for full coverage.

Simple to set up and use, with your safety in mind

In minutes, your Wi-Fi network can be set up and connected to the things you love most using the Google Home App. You can easily monitor your network performance and help your family have safer online experiences through Family Wi-Fi.  With guest networking, you can share Wi-Fi access easily with guests without worrying about the safety of your home network and devices. Nest Wifi Pro is also equipped with secure booting and software updates to help protect it from running unauthorized software and router hacks. Take a look at our help center article for details.

Smart enough to monitor and diagnose itself

We all know how frustrating it can be when you have Wi-Fi issues and don’t know what’s wrong or what to do about it.  Nest Wifi Pro can monitor itself, diagnose issues, and even fix some common issues, so you don’t have to. And it lets you know if a simple fix, like replacing a bad Ethernet cable, can improve your network’s performance

Wi-Fi you’ll want to show off

We designed Nest Wifi Pro in a beautiful shape, finish and colors to fit into your home, no matter your style. It's designed to be placed out in the open, where they’ll perform better  - no need to hide them under a desk or behind a stack of books. Built with not only style, but sustainability in mind, Nest Wifi Pro is also made with over 60% recycled materials based on product weight.

Keep in mind: New Tech Needs New Hardware

Wi-Fi 6E’s 6 GHz band is new, with lots of available frequencies, which unleashes an unencumbered and responsive connectivity experience.  Previous Nest Wifi and Google Wifi operate using Wi-Fi 5 and the 5 GHz band for mesh connections.  Mixing Nest Wifi Pro with older-generation hardware would therefore quite simply just slow it down, and so mixing older generation Nest Wifi or Google Wifi with Nest Wifi Pro in the same mesh network isn’t supported. For more information, check out our help center article.

I was considering trying to sell my Nest and Google Wifi. I too often lose connection or seem to have bottle necks when too multiple streaming services in use at once. My biggest complaint other then the is no PC version of the Home App. is I am forced to monitor my wifi network through Google Home. it is pathetic how little ability you have to monitor and control the Wifi mesh. I heard a new Nest Pro was coming out with all this new functionality so I held off replacing my mesh. Now I found out not only is this new Pro version still going to be managed through Google Home with the same lame tools but hell my current mesh system won't even work with it. Also seems to be no exchange plan, So why would anyone with your old hardware waste time and money buying the new one?

I know it's wifi but do I need another company for wifi to work or does it go by your phones internet?

I'm going to feel really foolish if I buy yet another generation of this product and it starts falling apart after 12 months like my current system.

@keeblerkoder you can instead invest in solutions from networking companies that have a record of supporting their services and devices:

mikrotik; ubiquiti; Cisco and so on.
I personally use ubiquiti at my home. Not saying that it’s the best, but it’s very stable, and I’m simply running the lite tier of access points with great quality of service. Of course, it does not connect to google home app, but then again, what advantages would I have to have it?

id actually like to see a comparison between google solution and other vendors in that regard.

@Leticia @Please, for the love of all that is holy, share this with the product owner, if he wants to boost the sales of this device:

It also has Thread border router built in and Matter capability (coming soon), making Nest Wifi Pro the perfect foundation for your connected home.”

There are currently many conversations going around about adding thread and matter compatibility to different services. I know that google wants people to add matter devices to google home, but there are other alternatives that people (I as well) use and that you should focus on as well.

Look into the possibility of linking somehow these google thread router capable devices to services like openHAB / homeassistant, in order to link them all together.

I personally would never consider upgrading my home network to a google one because I use unifi. But, if you add matter compatibility and allow me to expose those devices to my openHAB local instance, you’d be tempting me into replace my 4 access points for a google solution. And I’m sure many others would as well (as long as your routers behave properly behind a double NAT scenario, because my ISP sucks 😞 ).

Hope I didn’t butcher my explanation. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more!

Does this require using the Google Home app? Because if so I don't understand how you expect it to work at all.

@Keith78 To setup and manage Google Nest Wifi Pro requires the Google Home app, just the same as the older Nest Wifi products.

I purchased 4 of these. I have 1gbps service to my newly built home. I have yet to get ethernet speed greater than 100mbps.

I spent over two hours, talking to 5 different people at Google, and no resolution to the problem, When asking for a refund, I was told, that was not possible after 15 days after the purchase date.

I have long been a Google advocate. I even spent 2 years as a beta tester for the Nest products. But after this poor performing device, and lack of any legitimate customer support, it looks like its time to find a new source for my router and mesh system.

Here are a couple of things to try which helped me:

1. Turn off Preferred Activities completely

2. For iOS Devices, Turn off the Private Wi-fi Address and set HTTP Proxy to off (recommended via another post on here)

Here is the original link for iOS devices (2) - https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Losing-connection/td-p/321727

During my conversations with their tech people, I did turn off the "preferred activities", and reset DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. No change in DL speeds. All the ethernet devices are Windows OS

@RickaloIt's unlikely to be a DNS issue.

Are there similar Private IP address features on Windows? Sorry I only know Apple/Mac/ios.

All my iOS devices were all experiencing random dropouts and performance issues until I made those changes.

I assume your main node is connected to your ISP router via Ethernet. Then all other nodes are connected wirelessly.

If I sit next to a node or very close to the room it's in, I see speeds of 204-250Mbps from an iPhone, which is what I would expect for a fibre 300Mbps, which is what I have.

If you hard wire in one of your laptops into a node, what speed will you see? Using this site - https://www.speedtest.net/

Then do the same test wireless - but sitting next to the node

Node = one of Nest Wifi things

The hard wired ethernet speed is the biggest issue.. I am only getting 70-100mbps DL speed out of the Wifi Pro router unit... I have 1gbps internet service to our home (newly built in June, 2022). The service speed to the house was confirmed to be ~1gbps.

I had the older version of Google wifi mesh system, and its ethernet download speed was faster.

@Rickalo I think they need to provide a another firmware update. I was trying to find a change log for the firmware updates. I’m assuming you have the current latest?

Rickalo

They had me do a factory reset, and then set it up again... I assume that while it was doing that, it looked for the latest updates...but don't know...

@Rickalo Latest version is - Current version: 1.63.327820

@Rickalo Only other thing I will add which may help you.

I've left my previous Wifi enabled, and specific devices are still connected to that until I see a few more firmware updates from Google.

Examples of devices still on old wifi - are Nest Protect, Nest Cameras, Nest Doorbell, Hue Lights and Sky (which I did cut over but have switched back)

Devices on the new Nest Pro Wifi are: All phones, tablets, consoles, computers, TVs, Alexa's & Google assistants - these are all connected via Wifi.

Hope this helps
