Does the wired version require a ground?

Before I buy a nest protect I want to know if the wired version requires a ground wire

The Nest Protect only needs to have supplied wire connected to the black and white wire inside the electrical box.

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the community! We're excited to hear that you're considering making your Home a Nest one. I'm happy to look into this for you.

Nest Thermostats do require a C-wire or a Power Connector in order for your HVAC system to work in tandem with your Nest device. You can check to see if your particular system requires either through this widget. The Power Connector is available if you do not wish to install a C-wire on your own or require any professional installation.
