Expiry date problem

TerryH
Community Member

It seems that you can only view the expiry date of a Nest protect on the product itself.

As the expiry date starts from time of manufacture, would it not be a really logical thing to also print this on the outside of the box?  Or is that too much like common sense?

Stock might have been sitting around for some time.  Just saying...

I'm pissed! I just shelled out $$ for a NEW nest Protect to replace my truly expired one. I opened the box and the 2nd gen unit was mfg in May of 2019. This thing only has 6 1/2 years left, and I just took it out of the new box.. Home Depot!

YES it would be beneficial.  I'm pissed! I just shelled out $$ for a NEW nest Protect to replace my truly expired one. I opened the box and the 2nd gen unit was mfg in May of 2019. This thing only has 6 1/2 years left, and I just took it out of the new box.. $119.00 from Home Depot is bad enough, but to only have 6 1/2 years left is ridiculous!

Hello everyone,

I understand your concern about the life span of your Nest Protect. In particular, we expect our resellers to have good stock rotation policies that ensure stock isn't unnecessarily sitting on shelves losing time. We’re sorry the reseller you purchased your device from [didn’t meet your expectations], we'd like to make it right ― even though you didn't buy it from us, we want you to feel confident in your Google product.

The expected product lifetime of up to 10 years shouldn't be confused with the 2-year Limited Warranty that comes with the device. Whilst Google offers replacements pursuant to its Limited Warranty, and in compliance with any applicable laws, it doesn't represent or warrant that Nest Protect will function for 10 years.

Rather, the Limited Warranty ensures the purchaser of the Nest Protect to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 2 years, which starts at the date of delivery or original retail purchase.

Regards,
Emerson

So how will you be providing me a new 2nd gen fresh unit?  By overnight or 2 day UPS or FedEx I hope. What do you need from me?    Thanks, CHUCK

Hi folks,

@TerryH just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

I appreciate the help, JT.

Regards,
Emerson

Emerson,

Your reply is appreciated, but Google Nest continues to misunderstand the issue. The sensor of my brand new Nest Protect, which is still in the box, is already 3 1/2 years old. Although the unit was supposed to last 10 years, the sensor inside the unit will not last 10 MORE years. The sensor will only be accurate 6 1/2 more years, at which time the Unit will start signalling me that it needs replaced. It will start beeping 6 1/2 years from now… although the rest of the unit will still only have been out of the box and installed for 6 1/2 years. So …I ask that you send me a brand new unit , whose label says it was created this month (or at least within a couple of months) - and a pre-paid label so I can return the new unit (whose sensors are already 3 1/2 years old) that I purchased from Home Depot to you!! CHUCK

Good morning JT.. we can communicate via email, that is fine..but so far, this thread tells me to go look in my email, and then the email reply simply tells me that a response has been posted to this thread??????????????? I'm not hearing about a solution except that your device has a 2 year warranty. It isn't going to fail in 2 years! Its going to stop working 6 1/2 years from now, when the device won't stop beeping because the timer on the sensor says it it is now 10 years old.

Hey Google Nest people.. I solved my problem myself. I returned the "Brand New" ..3 1/2 year old Nest Protect to my Home Depot. I fully explained the problem. They had 3 Nest Protects available. We opened each one of them and ultimately found a product created in July of 2022. That is the one I took home. They will be retuning the 2 "old" models and my original "old" product to Google... you are getting them back whether you wanted them or not!!
