I have normal Duracell (not lithium) batteries at 100% in the Nest Protect. It say they are dead. So I play along and change them out. The Nest says they are still dead. Nest cut off all support phone and email support, which seems to be a movement now in the US. The customer service culture is dying everywhere and support is being stripped away. Hence I have no way of getting help and at this point, I will not reward Google by buying Nest again. Does anyone have advice about the batteries

Both battery and wired Protect models require Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries, it's mandatory to use those batteries. Using other types of batteries will be detrimental and isn't supported.

There is zero technology or scientific support for using Energizer over Duracell. In over 50 years, I’ve never heard anything like this for any product. Not to mention no one at Neat ever said anything. Can you tell me why there’s never been an issue for the last six years until now with Duracell batteries? Unless I hear back from you, I’m just going to discount your reply.

Sorry for my1st reply . I was just frustrated. I appreciate your response and now I understand. It's just hard when you've never heard something your whole life and then someone says it's the wrong kind of double AA battery but I understand now Lithium vs Alkaline have different properties. I always just thought one lasted longer but a battery is a battery.

My Nest keeps saying the battery is dead when they are at 100%. They are normal batteries. I am sorry you are experiencing this. I am also and it looks like NEST Protect Support has been completely cut off by Google. They cut off the phone number and don't even answer online. I think it's part of a larger epidemic in the USA where the customer service culture is evaporating everywhere across the board.

No problem. That's definitely not the case here I'm afraid, not all batteries are created equally.

Hi everyone,
@TaylorS, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, what other troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Have you tried replacing them with the recommended batteries? Just a reminder, don’t use rechargeable or alkaline batteries. If you do, they will quickly drain and will need to be replaced soon after installing them. Hit this link for more information and let us know if you have more questions in mind.
I appreciate the help, David_K.
Regards,
Emerson
