Nest Protect Firmware upgrade

Rocco1

I just setup 8 Nest Protect smoke/CO alarms and noticed the devices running two different versions. Some are running 3.1.4rc3 and others 3.4rc6. Is 3.1.4rc3 the most current? If so, how do I update the others?

Thanks

I'm not sure Google keeps a list of the latest firmware publicly anywhere, to my knowledge. As long as your Nest Protect is connected to Wi-Fi and the internet, it should update itself automatically. If it’s been more than a week and it still hasn’t received the latest software, you can reset its connection to the Wi-Fi network to try to push things along:

  1. Press the button on your Nest Protect once. It should say, “Ready. Press to test.”
  2. Press and hold the button for about 5 seconds until you hear it say, “Checking the network.”
  3. Wait 15 minutes.
  4. Check Nest Protect’s software version again.

Yes, I did that and it worked. Thanks

What about the Model number? One of my recently purchased devices had a Model number of Topsz-2.0. When I performed the procedure you mentioned it upgraded to Model: Topaz-2.9.  Some of my devices are Topaz-2.33 and others are Topaz-2.9, even after performing the same steps. It seems inconsistent.

I’m still in the same spot however have not experienced any issues but would love to understand the inconsistent behavior that I believe is experienced.  Thanks

@Rocco1

The best suggestion I can give is to restart or Factory Reset each of them around the same time, so hopefully they are all on the same update. I hope that helps! I wish I had more insight, but these devices mainly function best on a very strong, steady wifi connection.

Best regards,

Brad.

I don't have one myself, so can't comment specifically on that part unfortunately!

Is there a way to get the firmware file, drop it in the nest via usb so it can update to the new firmware.

I connected my nest protect via usb and copy my nest pli file to my desktop, open it and is version 3024.

I can´t connect the smoke detector to any wifi. Tried my wifi, the neighbor, my sister, and my parents, didn´t succeed in any attempt.

I am wondering the same thing. However, I can't even see the pli file on my nest.

I fixed the firmware and connectivity problem, bought a new nest smoke detector, did the registration with the new, once finished, add the old nest to the app.

The old one connected to the new one, and updated the configuration and firmware of the old one.

Now both are working fine
