Nest Thermostat Upgrade (UK)

I have an early model nest thermostat (gen2 I think). However Google are removing support for this device.
if I trade up to gen 3 can I use the existing heat link or do I have to replace that with the new one that comes with gen 3?

thanks in advance.

@T8JRP

Each Nest thermostat model comes with a Heat Link designed specifically for that model, so you would need to replace the Heat Link. If you have only heating you will only need to have the wires from the old Heat Link transferred to the new third generation one as the terminals will be identical. The 3rd generation just has more terminals for hot water control.

Incorrect information!!!

You are a Mod you should know better!!

YES a 3rd Gen display WILL work with a 2nd gen Heat Link, BUT you will not be able to use the hot water function. Just pair the display to your old 2nd gen Heat Link.

I will look for the link that I spent time with another user as proof.

Have a look at this, and read ALL of the thread!

What I said is the recommended advice, I did not say continuing to use the 2nd gen heat link would not work. You could absolutely choose not to follow that advice but should you then need support, one of the first things Google support is likely to ask is to replace the heat link with the one that is designed for the 3rd gen thermostat.

That's not how the reply sounds.

Doesn't really matter, as the original poster hasn't come back, so they are probably buying a new system!
