Hello,
I have been trying to figure out how to keep the nest thermostat connected to nest server so I can control it from the google home app. My system has W and R wires so I am using the nest power connector. It is dedected. Power is good. Batteies are good. The thermostat has no problem connecting to wifi or to the nest server. It has problem staying connected to the nest server which then disable the google home app from controling the thermostat. Even when it is disconnected from nest server, it is still connected to wifi. When I re-start the thermostat, it connects to nest server right away without any issue and the google home app is working again. It stays connected for a day or two then disconnected again, sometimes after a few hours. I have comast wifi with a motorola modem/router combine. I have a wyze camera connecting to the same wifi with no issue. No other device has issue connecting to wifi. There is no error on the thermostat. Google support thought it was a defect thermostat so they sent me a replacement. It did not fix the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? At this point, I consider this a dummy thermostat like my old round mercury thermostat.
Thank you
Ly

I have had this issue and finally fixed it. I have a dual band router and did not create separate networks for 2.4 and 5.0GHZ. The nest thermostat(i have the mirror regular nest thermostat) cannot handle 5.0GHZ and when it would randomly switch itself it would disconnect from the Nest server and render app control useless.
I created a Guest Network dedicated for the nest at 2.4GHZ and connected it to the nest and have not had problems in 2 weeks since I did it.

We are having the same exact issue with my Inlaws T-stat, I have not gotten ahold of customer service yet.

Please post after you get a solution from Google support. Thanks

Also having this issue. It keeps taking me to a page for wifi connection, but the wifi connection is online.

Same issue here. Frequent disconnect from Nest server, but wifi remains connected. Please post when you have a solution!
Thanks,

Yeah, you have described the exact issues with my Nest thermostat. I wish I have not bought it - crap that cannot stay connected to a server. If their "support" cannot see what is wrong that talks loud about their knowledge.

Omg, same issue! Please dear lord, is there a resolution.

Same situation here

I had contacted Google Nest support. Well, that did not go well at all. All they were trying is to "troubleshoot" my wifi home network but NOTHING about their device/software/server having any issues. I know what my network looks like and told them ALL other devices work flawlessly but NO the guy would keep his narration to "troubleshoot" my network. Now, I am pretty sure the reason Nest goes offline is GOOGLE SERVER disconnecting it.
Btw, the tech "support" offered to replace my Nest T with another one and sent me a link..., what a joke - the link is not working and my next call about the link did not go ANYWHERE. I feel like I am dealing not with a multi-billion dollar company but with some scam bags.
I have to admit it - I was wrong about Nest T being disconnected by Google server at this time. So, the issue is with my Asus RT-AX92U AiMesh router/Access Point's Guest Network. All my other devices are on a normal network, but I had enabled Guest Network for Nest T, so it is restricted from accessing my other devices. Well, the short story is I HAVE NOT tested that network ever before and assumed/trusted Asus it would be working well as the other WiFi network for the past two years. I WAS WRONG. Guest Network would just kick out any devices within 15 mins and won't allow a reconnection until the router or wifi module is rebooted 😞 . I think I made it to work, at least Nest T was able to keep a connection for over 24 hours v.s. 15 mins before.
So, the lesson is - do not assume your router is working as you are expecting if you had connected your Nest T to a new WiFi network or anything else that differs from your other devices.
However, the issue of me believing Nest T was still connected is a BUG with Nest T. Even though it was disconnected from WiFi/router, it was still showing as CONNECTED to my WiFi. So, I was not thinking to start digging with my router as Nest T was showing a connection to WiFi but not to Google Server. That IS on Google devs totally.
P.S.
The link for the replacement still does not work (though I do not need it anymore), so that part about Google CS is still standing.

They sent me a replacement. It has the same problem as the first one. I tried setting DHCP lease time to five hours, assigned an ip address to the thermostat, still have problem disconnecting from nest server every day. Many people posted the same problem on Reddit. I gave up. Consider this a dummy thermostat.

Did you mean your thermostat was connected to the guess network and it had 15 minute time limit? Has it been working connecting to normal network? Mine is connected directly to the modem/router Arris. The guess network is inactive. I wonder if I need a new modem. It is not worth the expense on a new modem when everything else is working fine for me.

Well, the short answer is I had to forgo using Guest Network from my router/access point as it had been proven unreliable. After that I had connected Nest T to my normal WiFi network, to which all other devices are connected, and it has been connected to it ever since without a hiccup.

I have had exactly the same problem for countless months. The WiFi connection never fails, but Nest server disconnects reliably after several hours. What is going on?

Seems that there are MANY people having this issue, and it’s safe to say it’s not everyone’s Wi-Fi and that it is not a one-off issue… it continues to happen to me and others, and as multiple people have noted my Nest is connected to the Wi-Fi but not the nest server..
So, it’s a issue with Nest.. and they should really look into fixing this bug.
03-15-2022 05:45 PM
They have a bug that shows as Nest Thermostat is connected to WiFi still; whereas in a reality it is not connected any more. You need to take a look into your router configurations and check Nest thermostat being available still there.

Yeah, no.. and it happened again today.. but guess what!? I could still access my Philipp Hue Lights.. because there’s nothing wrong with my router or how the Hue light system is designed or my Water Sensor for that matter! *FacePalm*

Are you certain they are on the exact same WiFi network? I would suggest to record IP address of the Nest T while it is connected and check its status under DHCP Leases. It should be displayed there all the time. For me, it would disappear from the list but would still show as connect if checked from Nest T menu.

Thanks @lturner3 ! This solved the problem I was having where my Nest Thermostat was constantly disconnecting from the Nest server! I created a 2.4 GHz guest network on my router and connected the Nest to that network. and the thermostat has not disconnected from the Nest server since then.

I am just glad we could crowd source and fix the problem. It was driving me/us nuts. I passed it along to the nest support. Hopefully they can document it better because when I attempted to have it resolved through them it didn't get anywhere.

Try restarting the thermostat

Just chiming in say that I have the exact same problem. Home wi-fi network is rock solid. Nest thermostat is connected to power with the "C" wire. Nest batteries are good. However, the Nest thermostat constantly disconnects from the Nest server.
I'm going to try the solution offered by Iturner3 since I also have a dual band router that does not have separate networks created for 2.4 and 5.0 GHz.

I have the same issue. it started 3 days ago. Something is going on. My google Nest has been working good connected to my 2.5 ghz wifi network for almost 1.5 years. I believe it is something Google has to fix.
05-13-2022 01:28 PM
Also jumping in to say that I was having the issue with my nest going offline every other day or so. Seems it would always happen when it tried to switch from the 2.4 to the 5ghz channel. Thanks to the information people have posted here I've since activated the guest channel on my router. Since the guest channel is only the 2.4ghz, and after connecting my nest to it, the thermostat has not disconnected once.

Hi there,
I just wanted to say my Thermostat is working again. I did not do anything. I can see it is connected to the server again. I strongly believe it was an error from Google.
05-24-2022 10:59 AM
I am currently having the same problem with losing connectivity to the Nest server. I also switched my Nest thermostats to a 2.4gHz network, but that did not solve the problem.
05-24-2022 04:02 PM
Thanks @lturner3 ! I've had this annoying problem since I installed our thermostat a couple of years ago. A week ago I created a MAC filter on my router (AT&T fiber) to block the thermostat from connecting to the 5GHz network. Now it has stayed connected to the Nest server ever since! It never lasted more than a day or 2 before. This seems like a bug that should be fixed, or at least well documented and linked to when the error occurs. Google's troubleshooting for this was useless.
05-24-2022 04:57 PM
Giving the MAC filter a try. I noticed the thermostat reconnected after creating the filter, so that's a good sign. We'll see if this stays the case over the next week or so.
06-13-2022 03:03 PM
Just sharing an update that after 3+ weeks the MAC filter continues to work. No disconnects.
10-15-2022 09:45 AM
Update: In the 5 months since adding the MAC filter to prevent 5GHz WiFi connection I've had zero disconnects.
