cannot share thermostat access with a family member

This below copied from another post just does not work and I am unable to share control of the Nest products with my spouse. The below instructions have been followed and he appears as a family member in the google home app, but the nest thermostat does not show up in his nest app.

Here are the steps to add someone:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Switch to the home you want to share.
  • At the top, tap Add   Invite home member  Invite person.
    • If you don't find "Invite home member," tap Add person to home.
  • Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home  tap Next.
  • Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home  tap Next.
  • Review the person’s access to your home  tap Send.
  • If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you’ll get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
    • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
    • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
    • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.
  • The person you invite will receive an email with instructions.

Ah so it doesn't appear for you in the Google Home app either, that's key. When you install the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E in the Nest app, the thermostat should automatically appear in the Google Home app if you’re using the same account in both apps, using the same home structure, and have assigned the thermostat to a room in the Nest app. If any of that isn’t true, you’ll need to go ahead and fix those issues to see if you need to try the steps below at all.

Assuming all of the above is true. try these steps:

  1. Open the Nest app and follow the “Create another home in the Nest app” steps linked below to create a new temporary home structure:
Manage homes and products with the Nest app - Google Nest Help
  2. Open the Google Home app, find and delete the home structure you just created by following the “Delete a home” steps linked below:
Share a home and devices in the Google Home app - Google Nest Help

This forces the two apps to sync and your thermostat should now appear in the Google Home app.

So your thermostat shows up in the Nest app for you but not your spouse even though you can see them as a home member in your Google Home app? They remember accepting your invitation to join the home?

Are they logging into the Nest app using the same account you invited to your home using the "Sign in with Google" button?

The account they're using is a personal Gmail account?

Yes to all of that, they can control all the other devices in the home app and are definitely a part of it. But even though they are logged into the nest app with the same email, the thermostat will not show up.

And just to confirm that email you’ve invited is a Google account?

Yes it is

  1. Does your spouse see any other products in the Google Home app that were setup in the Nest app?
  2. Does your spouse see any homes listed when they go to the Nest app > expand upper left of home screen > + button > Home setup?

there are no other homes in my spouse’s nest app.

Those steps solved the issue, thank you! I now see the thermostat in the home app and my spouse can see it now as well. I appreciate your help finding the right trouble shooting steps.
