Google home wifi point shows offline but isn't

rrrccc57

Pretty simple set up of original google home network, been working for years until recently

Office-Wifi connected to ISP modem, Model AC1304, software version 14151.43.81
FamilyRoom-Wifi mesh connection, Model AC1304, software version 14151.43.81

Both the devices were purchased from google in a 3 pack.

First issue, a few months ago, I don’t know the exact date but may have coincided with the forced switch to Google Home App; FamilyRoom-Wifi point starts going offline, at least it says so in the “home” app, and stays offline until re-boot/power-cycle. Note the Google Home App notification says the FamilyRoom-Wifi point is offline but the lights on the device don’t indicate a problem. What’s up with that?

Second issue, 2 Roku devices within 4 feet of FamilyRoom-Wifi point, the Home app shows device 1 excellent connection 2.4ghz, but shows a weak connection 5ghz for device 2. Device 1 is a relatively new Roku stick (2.4ghz) device 2 (5ghz) is a TCL Roku TV. Note, device 2 shows it has an "Excellent" connection while the Home app shows weak. What’s up with that?

You are correct @rrrccc57

after force closing the Google home app it reappeared.  Like others I’m leaving this alone for now.  My internet is working fine and I have better things to do with my life :).  Hopefully Google can reproduce this and fix this on a future version.  Thanks again!

I haven't put any more time into this. I just check it once in a while and say, "Nope. Still not fixed." As long as I have wifi and can kick my kid off, I'm quite done troubleshooting.

Please explain again with more detail. I have had this issue with my speakers for over a year.

was this bug ever fixed? I am encountering it again. Quite frustrating since I can't check the mesh connection anymore. The whole thing is super buggy.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. Nest thermostat and nest wifi both show loading or offline in the home app. But when I click on them, everything is great. I can click into wifi and my connectivity is amazing. I can use all functions of nest thermostat from the other app. Just sucks that google home says offline when it’s not. It does occasionally cause my nest point Assistant to not want to turn my lights on and off. Other than that, no other hinderance.

I am having the same problem with my nest router.  Has a solution been identified yet?

Any update on this, I am still having this problem?  In fact it tells me my whole network is down but I still have internet connections.

Any update when the fix will be available?

Was there a fix?  It's January 2023 and I'm having this problem. GoWifi router (feeding five GoWifi mesh points) is "offline" in Home app even though it's working.   Network settings also shows port forwards as empty even though it is successfully forwarding the originally designated points.

I would REALLY little to get access to my router and my network settings!

SSDY (same sh*t different year). Way to go*ggle !

FairplayAlma is right - once the App was updated the problem was resolved.

Check you have the latest Google Home app.

Was there a fix?  Yes

Mine is fixed; others in this discussion say the same.

If I had your problem, I would start by powering all units off for 20 seconds and then back on.  I'd make sure that the app was up to date.  I'd restart it and my phone and try again.  If that didn't fix it, I'd start a new discussion.

You could also contact Google Support?

I'm on android yes latest rev, and no it hasn't been fixed. Anyone on android that's seen this fixed?

The Chromecast was working fine and then I moved the TV to another room and now it's not connecting to the WIFI. I even moved the TV closer to the router to check and it's still not connecting.

My app started showing offline today, go to the Nest on the wall and it’s not offline.  Was the bug you mentioned related to this and has fix been pushed yet?

Many months since your update & I noticed the problem now on one of my 3 google wifi devices. 2 are fine, the main one connected to my router seems to be working fine, but shows as offline on Google home. Wifi connections are fine both through the Google wifi network & the wifi router.

I am having this issue with my Wi-Fi pro that I just purchased. It keeps saying several times a day that various Wi-Fi points are offline when they are not.

It’s April 2023 and I am having this problem.

I see this post is from last year, but I am having this issue as well. Are there any updates on this issue actually getting fixed?

From my perspective I've given up, Google never fixed the problem

Issue was opendns blocking. Make sure you don't have something similar.

Not for me

Hi, Jkspring.

Right now there doesn't seem to be any issues with connectivity, but rather just the app reporting a loss of connectivity. Things should continue to function normally from a network connection standpoint, but obviously getting false app reports is frustrating. I'll update as I know more, however.

Thanks.

Much appreciated @Jeff .
I ran into this today after a factory restart.  Wifi is fine but shows offline.

it makes it a little troublesome if real problems come to light so any update on when this may be fixed would be great.  Thanks!

Same problem here. The accesspoint are shown offline in then Google Home app, but are still working. Only restart (power off/on) of the accesspoint with meshtest afterwards will bring them up online in the google home app. It doesn't matter if the accesspoint is connected wireless or wired.

Aside from false app reporting, it does actually interfere with Google assistant from the nest point occasionally. Because the app thinks it’s offline, eventho it’s not, it won’t respond when trying to turn on or off the lights

Hi, everyone. I got word recently of a possible fix on this. If you toggle your IPv6 settings in the Home app, it can clear up the issue. If you're not using IPv6, you will just enable it and turn it back off. If you are using it, turn it off and back on. Below are the steps for that setting.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Wi-Fi and then Settings and then Advanced Networking.
  3. Turn on IPv6.
  4. Tap Save .

Once going through these steps, check and see if you're still seeing the same issues.

Thanks.

Hey Jeff. Any news on this? it's been an ongoing issue for me for a couple of months, even after replacing entire network with 3 new pucks. Support has been useless. IP6 trick doesn't help since primary Point is offline (while secondaries are online). Any way to roll back to a prior firmware release until this is figured out? Many are suffering and jumping ship to eero or orbi. Thx.

Thanks Jeff!

I had 5 additional point offline, even 2 of them are hardwired. This trick has worked for me, but I have to keep IPv6 off. Once I turn IPv6 back on, additional points go offline one by one in about a day. So, IPv6 toggle does not work, only keeping it off works.

Please advise if there is a way to keep IPv6 on and have units online.

Hi Jeff,

My phone 'is a Samsung S20, I tried the steps but could not find IPv6.

I have to Google Home units and both stopped working at the same time????

Is the fix you mentioned for all phone applications? It has been two months they have not worked, even after an IT specialist tried to reset them, they still didn't work??

Cheers, Frank

I have tried this resolution and my network still shows offline and randomly comes back online then off again...it is super frustrating.  Is Google any closer to resolving this issue?

Giantman344

Toggling IPv6 fixed my wifi points so they now show online however I cannot “pause” individual devices.  The pausing feature is a must for kids!

I have brand new equipment, installed today.  All my nest points/router show offline, but appear to work.  Your trick did absolutely nothing for me.

Ah, you may be the angle to hit support with. Threaten to return maybe that will wake them up

Did all that (BTW, it's August 25, 2022) and still google home app says my google nest devices are OFFLINE.

Not only that the bugs still there (shown offline), but since the past few days the network also kept on disconnected intermittenly 😞

Hi, Jeff.  This doesn't work to resolve this issue but is also less secure.   Everyone here's had this issue for months--for me, it just popped up yesterday. I know this because over the last few days I've been resetting kid summer device times and pausing things. So, I can peg a date.

Since it's been months and users still report a bug, and new bugs are popping up, is there a resolution time?  I don't want to have to swap out Google Wifi and replace with something else.  Thanks!

Worked for a few days then back offline
