10 Months Later, and STILL CANT CLEAR A TAMPER FROM THE APP!

Holy smokes. So here we are again. The Lock randomly starts screaming when someone is coming in the door. The website declares TAMPER!

Ok fine, clear the alarm.  NOW WHAT?!

It just sits there with a Tamper! Imagine if home security systems worked like this nonsense.  Hey the alarm got set off, and you cleared it.  Thanks, thanks for playing.  Now we will sit here and just indicate FOREVER that an alarm has happened.  No clearing... just that's it. We are telling you. Constantly.  If you would like to clear it, you need to remove the batteries and aside from physically re-bolting it to the door, you need to re-set up the device.

That's where we are at in 2022 with $200+ devices.  We have ChatGPT now that can write a term paper for a 5th grader for free, but Nest can't clear a simple Tamper alert.  Good job everybody, great work. Pat your selves on the back and drink a cold one. You did it.  You made another peice of absolute garbage and sell it for maximum dollars.

The best part is, the little link under the "The lock has been tampered with, What to do now" provides exactly ZERO help!

Yes, the answer is to get rid of the device.

There is absolutely NO WAY to clear a tamper other than removing the batteries.  You can try to disassemble the lock further and make sure the white cable is not pinched according to Yale.

So yeah, the final answer is "REMOVE LOCK, THROW IN GARBAGE. GET A NEW LOCK THAT IS NOT NEST." That will fix the problem permanently.

  That's the answer.

Hi dscott73,

I’m sorry to hear that. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have. Let’s sort this out. Are the batteries of your lock fresh and standard AA alkaline batteries? Is the lock mounted properly on your door?

Give these steps a try:

  • Take off the battery cover and remove the batteries from your lock. Put the batteries back in after 60 seconds. Wait a few minutes to check if your lock comes back online.
  • Factory reset your lock.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Hey there,

I just wanted to follow up to see if you still need our help. Please let us know as we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I appreciate the help, JT.

Thanks,

Archie

Tell them, Google, Nest I don’t care that you should be able to clear a tamper from the app. Not disassemble the unit.

I have the same problem.  The alarm will go off for absolutely no reason. I looked outside this last time and all I saw was 2 cats sitting on the sidewalk. No one near the door. It makes no sense. The little piece of plastic that holds the back over the batteries broke off so I have to tape the cover on. You would think that something costing almost $300 would work properly and have stronger plastic. I've been looking into replacing it. Everyone in the family is tired of the alarm going off and it taking an act of God to get it turned off. I don't even bother trying to get the "tampered" off the app anymore because it's just going to go off again. It's a pain in the ass!

I found the answer. You only need to do this once but it works.

If you have an older lock that has been doing this. Disassemble it, throw it in the garbage and uninstall the Nest app.

If you just purchased a new lock, you will need to disassemble the lock, throw it in the garbage and uninstall the Nest app.

No more tamper!

I can understand your frustration with not being able to remove the tamper on our lock. If you no longer have the device, we'll be closing and locking this thread in 24 hours. This thread will remain open until then for any follow-ups or concerns.

Best regards,

Brad
