How To Factory Reset Nest Outdoor Camera

JoeC3

I need help resetting my Nest outdoor camera.  This issue has come up repeatedly on here -- e.g., here, here, and here -- but no solution gets posted.

I have a Nest outdoor camera.  The device is set to interface with a wireless router that no longer exists.  The devices cannot connect to the Internet.  I would like to reset these devices so that I can add them to my Home through my wireless network.

The Google Help page has not solved my problem, at least insofar as I understand its advice.  Its instructions are:

  1. Disconnect your camera from power by unplugging the power adapter from the electrical outlet.
  2. Wait 10 seconds.
  3. Plug the power adapter back into an outlet. Your camera will restart.

Yes, the device will restart, but it does not appear to reset.  The Home app does not seem to recognize it as an available Nest cam.

My question:  What is the recommended procedure for changing the wifi settings of a device that is already set to look for a wireless network that no longer exists?

Thank you for your help,

Joe

Those steps restart the camera, they don't factory reset it. Before resetting, I'd recommend trying these steps first:

  1. Go to your camera, turn on your phone’s Bluetooth, then follow the steps below.
  2. On the Nest app home screen, tap the settings cog.
  3. Select Home info then Home Wi-Fi help. (If you don’t find Home Wi-Fi help, you’ll need to remove your camera from the app and add it back with new Wi-Fi information. You’ll lose your video history so make sure to save any important video clips before removing your camera.
  4. Select the camera you want to update.
  5. Tap Start and then Update settings.

If those steps don't work for you, scroll further down on the help article you linked to and follow the steps towards the bottom underneath "Factory reset".

Wow.  My issue was solved immediately.

The solution was that the old cameras were still registered on my Nest app.  You must unregister the cameras on your phone.  Then, connect to the cameras using Bluetooth.

Thank you

Hi ARLISA1913,

What’s up? Can you tell me more about what's going on with your Nest doorbell? We'd love to help.

Thanks,

JT

Hi JT! When using the home app, I can't get my camera/doorbell to connect to wifi. I keep getting an error message that it won't connect.  I have reset my modem, disconnected the wifi, disconnected the camera from my app (Android-Google Pixel phone), tried to connect my camera in the ios on an iPad and to no avail.  My camera has been rebooted, restarted and factory reset! I am beyond frustrated.  This just happened within the last few weeks.
