I've had my Nest Hello Doorbell since 2018, it worked perfectly and without issue until recently. Now everytime someone presses the button, it cuts out mid ring in the device, and loses power. The camera stops working until maybe 30 seconds later. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I was able to correlate the intermittent failure of mine to the ambient temperature outside. It always happened when the outdoor temperature started dropping. It worked during the summer and then started cutting out when we started hitting the winter temperatures outside.
YMMV and I'm just sharing my experience for reference.

Wow... you are so lucky...
01-15-2022 11:59 AM
What size/type battery is it?
01-15-2022 12:24 PM
I followed the steps here and also see my comments in that post for the replacement part I used: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nest+Hello+Battery+Replacement/131729
You only need to follow Steps 1 - 3 and then you can swap the battery out.

Yes, that's the one.

I have the same problem. I installed it in March 2020. This problem started in November 2021. I thought the door bell might be loose. I fastened it today 01/15/2022 and the wires are fine. But the problem continues. I bought it from Costco. How to fix this problem? Can I ask for a replacement? Thanks.
01-16-2022 05:13 AM
Georgez...you may be in luck. Costco usually doubles the warranty for products purchasing through them and you are just within the 2 yrs required here. I am not sure how the process works since I haven't had a chance to test this, but I suggest you start by checking their website about the warranty support first!

On the box, it says 2 yr warranty. In my case, it is until March 2022. I don't know if I should return it or not because I just renewed Nest Aware Plus for $120 in November 2021. But this Nest Hello Doorbell is $299. Today I turned off In-door Chime on the App. Turned on Visitor Announcement. I am now using Nest mini smart speaker with assistant to announce if someone is pressing on the button. The problem has resolved. I am happy. Probably just continue to use it. However, the Nest mini speak only rings & announces once no matter how many times you press on the button. It also announces familiar face's name. After unknown period of time (30 -60 seconds?), if you push the button again, it announces again.
01-16-2022 09:56 AM
To be precise, the Nest Mini Smart Speak with Assistant has a 30 second refractory period in between rings & announcements. I wish there should not be any refractory period, but it is OK compared to human being's

Called them. A guy said to take down the door bell and charge the battery with an USB for 20 minutes. Has anyone tried this before? Did this method work? Thanks.
01-16-2022 08:36 AM
Found a temporary solution for myself today. It works well without shuts off.
1. Turn Chime off from app.
2. Turn Visitor Announcement on.
3. Use Nest mini smart speaker with assistant, which works as a door bell and announces someone is at the door.
01-16-2022 08:45 AM
Correct, I was using that method until I got the replacement battery. Unfortunately, I need the external chime to work due to the setup of my house, so was not a permanent solution for me.
01-16-2022 09:34 AM
Did your replacement battery work? They said the problem was due to the battery. If you have a new battery, the problem should be resolved.
01-16-2022 10:03 AM
Yes, the replacement battery fixed the issue per my post above with instructions and part number.
01-16-2022 10:15 AM
It is still a temporary solution because you still need to buy a replacement battery every year or so. There is supposed to be a better way. Considering the time and effort you put in this, many people prefer a battery with longer life like 4-5 years.

No disagreement at all on that point. Totally agreed that it should not have to be like this and we all deserve better as customers.
For me, spending ~$20 and 30 minutes of my time was a much better option than paying $150+ for a replacement doorbell and having to upgrade to the new Nest Aware plan which costs double my current plan since I must have the external chime working for my situation.

So now I am supposed to go out and spend 50 bucks on a nest mini to get this $200 something doorbell to work the way it is supposed to? I would go buy a Ring before I gave google anymore money for the services they are not providing!
01-17-2022 07:27 AM
I am keen to know if anyone has tried out this and if it works...
01-16-2022 10:05 AM
I debated the replacement battery path but ended up filing an extend warranty claim with my credit card used for purchase. They approved it. I got my 240 back. Anyone have experience with the new battery version they are selling?
01-16-2022 10:36 AM
I was looking at possibly switching to the newer version as well but I prefer the 24/7 video history with best aware which the newer one, even if it’s wired, doesn’t support.

Sorry, I'm talking to Mdice11.

I don't see how to private message here, but do you want to sell your old nest hello?
01-16-2022 10:18 AM
I have a Nest Hello (1st gen) wired doorbell since 2018. The button’s chime out of sudden doesn’t work similar to other replies. The chime would sometimes work if the button multiple times and it would be weak.
01-16-2022 12:24 PM
Having the same issue: camera restarts when the doorbell is rung. Turning off indoor chime does prevent restart. Bought the Nest Hello at the end of 2019. Google, please address this defect!
01-16-2022 12:57 PM
This is all BS…
Nest needs to get there act together. I am so ready~ for a class action law suit!

What happened to Brad who was looking into everyone’s reports with Google? I haven’t seen any updates from him in about a month.
01-17-2022 07:37 AM
Brad is just like our doorbells, won't work when pressed and fails to chime in with answers.
01-16-2022 01:18 PM
Any update on a resolution?
01-16-2022 07:57 PM
Just adding my experience. Bought my device in Dec 2019. Starting having this same problem with video cutting out for 30 sec after each button press about 2 or 3 months ago. Very frustrating to see there is no solution or acknowledgement from Google.
01-17-2022 04:09 PM
Same exact problem
01-18-2022 10:06 AM
This is STILL an issue! I have a wired Doorbell, with a dedicated transformer, and EVERY TIME the doorbell button is pressed, the camera goes off line for several seconds. I can't tell you how incredibly frustrating it is to not be able to use the doorbell for the specific reason I bought it! The notifications are ridiculously slow as well. We've had the doorbell for a few years, and have had minimal problems with it up until the last few months. We were planning on buying one for our back door, as well as several security cameras, but at this point I'm just going to chuck it and go with Ring instead.
01-18-2022 12:02 PM
I turned off the “Indoor Chime” option in the doorbell settings in the app, and that has apparently fixed the issue. A voltage drain trying to ring another doorbell on the wiring? Or (in my case) an issue with NO indoor doorbell to ring? Eitherway, pressing the button is no longer killing my doorbell.

Google, can we have an update on this issue... There is now more then 400 replies to this thread... It look like it's a general issue.
01-19-2022 10:27 AM
I will check with the Nest Community team and see if they have anything to share.

Hey folks.
Thank you all for sharing your feedback, experiences, and work-around fixes. This issue/bug is still being looked into at this time. I am afraid I do not have an update or any form of ETA, but please keep an eye out on your devices, and continue to go through all of the suggested troubleshooting steps. Thank you again for all of your patience, and please let us know if you need further assistance.
Best regards,
Brad.

I turned off the “indoor chime” option and it’s working properly now. I have no indoor chime anyway, so I’m not sure why it was enabled.
01-19-2022 12:21 PM
Hi Brad, I've spent months to communicate with Nest customer support, and got similar feedback as what you provide. So it seems to me that Nest team is not really taking care of the issue and probably Nest team won't fix the issue.

What's the point of even replying by now with the same hollow words? Be nice if there was actual action behind words but that's too much to ask. Clearly y'all have zero motivation to correct an issue likely affecting thousands of users - as has been noted by numerous posters. i'm just one more person with the same defective wired nest doorbell that discovered this thread and the sad state of irresponsibility. Spent several hours going down suggested rabbit holes with zero success. It's getting harder and harder to justify the Google home ecosystem when you consider the amount of money spent on the initial product and the associated subscriptions only to discover defective hardware/software with equally defective support. Would be awesome if Google actually did what was right and addressed the issue but... Everything is not awesome with Google anymore. Will be strongly considering migrating to other smart home products going forward as my existing products reach their (unexpectedly nearer) end of life cycles.
