My Google Nest sets up successfully but will not connect to my internet. I've tried multiple help sections addressing connection issues, none successful. This is a reconnect issue. The original installation went smoothly. After some home repair in which I had to remove the Nest and points my reinstallation has been a failure.

I have the same problem: it continually says, "Can't connect to assisting device" and then stops trying altogether.

Hi Ritch82,
Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry to hear that you're also having an issue with setting up your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this. Aside from the Nest Thermostat, do you have other Nest devices installed? How far is it from your Nest Thermostat?
Thanks,
Edward

I have one Nest thermostat already working on the first floor...but am having trouble connecting the second one (on the second floor of my house...connected to a separate HVAC system). They are about 10' apart from each other on separate floors. Wondering if the fact that I am trying to use two is part of the problem?

Hi folks,
@Ehurt0015, thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get it to work. Please observe it for now and let us know if anything comes up.
@Apr86 and Ritch82, to isolate the issue, could you try moving the other Nest device near the one that you're setting up while it's trying to connect to Wifi?
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Edward

Hi Ehurt0015,
Thanks for letting us know. The code that you're getting means that it's either that assisting device is on a different network or it's turned off. Could you check if your other Nest devices is connected to the same network?
Thanks,
Edward

Solved!!! I had originally bought a google nest but it wasnt compatible with my heat pump but i had connected it to my phone... so when i returned it i forgot to to delete it then when i got my nest learning thermostat it was still trying to connect to the one i returned... after i deleted it from the nest app the new one connected.

Same exact thing here at my house!

Same issue here. Have one nest on the first floor and a second nest on the second floor. They were both connected to wifi and the app and working fine. Until one day about a month ago the nest on the second floor randomly disconnected itself from wifi. I have reset it, reset to factory settings, tried different networks, nothing works. Really frustrating that it just disconnected and won't reconnect.

Hey SK_in_NC,
Sorry to hear that you are running into the same concern with your thermostat and thanks for trying those steps already.
Are you getting a specific code or message on your Google Home/Nest app or thermostat's display when trying to connect it a WiFi network? Also, is it able to detect WiFi networks?
Best,
Melba
