NEST Heatlink Wired and Wiress question

Hi community. I have 2 NEST 3rd gen thermostats each with their own heatlink. Everything is working fine. My question comes because I have noticed that one of the thermostats in the NEST app technical info section shows heatlink as Wired but the other is showing as Wired and Wireless. Should they both be “Wired and Wireless”? Like I say everything working fine. Just curious as to why the two are connected differently.

That could be a reason if the pairing has dropped out due to power failure. Try in your settings, 'Replace Heat Link', and see if that might connect.

Other wireless issues could be, Dect phones, wifi boosters, anything like that even a microwave. Have you had anything new fitted or an appliance when you noticed the lost wireless connection?

Replace heat link sorted it.  Thanks.

AND....I had been suffering from an issue where the History of this thermostat was always a 1 day behind.  Just looked at the History on the NEST and now is correct.

I've seen other users suffering from "1 day behind" history lag - perhaps this is a fix for them too??

Hi there, thanks for posting! I'm so sorry to hear, but I'll be more than happy to assist you. The thermostat is by default connected wired and wireless, but the wireless connection might drop because of the interference. As long as the thermostat has a wired connection to the Heat Link everything should be working fine, but the Heat Link won't receive any updates. Rest assured, the updates are very rare and they don't really affect the core functionality.

Thanks, Larisa.

The easiest answer to your question is, The one saying ''Wired'', have you setup as wireless as well as wired?

Having just a wired connection makes the response slower, but when wireless also the response is far quicker.

When setting up, sometimes if you have a poor wireless connection, the Heat link will not pair with the display. Another reason, if the display and the Heat Link are not a matched pair, then unless you manually setup wireless, they will never be wireless!!

I would check in the settings on the display, if you are wireless as well.

When I try to see if I can set a wireless connection, it fails.  To be fair though, this heatlink is on the top floor of our house (3 floors) and the thermostat in question is on the bottom floor hallway.  I think its too far away to initialize a wireless link.  To my original post, everything works just fine and was wondering what difference (if any) it would make if it was "Wired and Wireless" rather than just "Wired".

That would happen if the set was not a matched pair! You would never pair them unless you set manually. Did you buy the set new in the box?

Being wired and wireless is far better, as the response between the display and Heat link is much quicker.

They are a matched pair, out of the box.  Some heating works was done quite some time ago and all power was probably off.  Wonder if that has something to do with it?

There you go, always the obvious catches people out!

You will now notice the switching will be far quicker and instant, wired there is a lag.

There's loads of issues on this forum where people get the wrong end of the stick, understanding the system and explaining it to users, is not easy. I'm not a Google Mod, but they don't point out the obvious to users to start with.

Hi there @TheRedBaron ! I'm glad to hear that your issue is sorted out now. Another way to fix the missing energy history issue is trying to connect the thermostat display and Heat Link wirelessly, indeed.

@Frustratedddd thank you for your help and indications!
