I woke up today and my Nest Learning Thermostate can no longer detect or connect to a WIFI network. The device has been working fine with the same router and network for 2.5 years. The display says "Your WiFi network could not be found" and when I go to WiFi settings it says "Searching. No Networks found yet." Does Nest still send out replacements for the bad wifi problems these devices have had since 2020?

It looks like I'm having the same issues shown here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/thread/19997505/w5-error-problem-have-tried-all-the-troublesho...

I've tried all the troubleshooting steps here:

I've checked that my settings are all correct:

Model: NEST_THERMOSTATE_DISPLAY_3.4
Software Version: 6.1-9

Same issue here! All of a sudden one day it just wouldn't find my wifi network. Keeps saying "none found yet" although my phone finds it immediately. Seems like an update screwed the early ones. Mine worked perfect for maybe 5 years? Then out of the blue can't use w my phone so useless to me. Had to reorder a 3rd generation one just yesterday against my better judgment. Like I said last one worked flawlessly for years. Also it used to light up when it sensed someone walking near it. Now nothing. Won't even light up after pushing it in and turning dial for maybe 15 secs. No error messages at all either. Tech support a waste of time. They read stupid canned responses from a book that don't even make sense to the issue u have. Can find more out researching on web! This issue has lawsuit/recall written all over it. A rep doesn't even monitor this page? Geez, this is a Google page and they manufacture the Nest and don't even respond to the hundreds of owners of Nest w the same issue? Their solution is "buy a new one"?

Moved into a house with one defective unit, Google replaced it. Now THAT unit has stopped connecting. I wonder if they'll replace it yet again, only a month later?

Having the same issue: I have charged, I have restarted (numerous times), I have rebooted modem and router. Everything in my house will connect except the nest thermostat. The router is in the same place it has always been, nothing has changed. The thermostat literally just stopped connecting. Cannot find a network, etc. So irritating!!!!!

I was able to swap my nest thermostat e from old house into my new house.  It connected to everything (Wifi) right away without issue.  I think it’s safe to say there was a hardware issue with the thermostat that came with the new house.

resolved - installed a new (old thermostat from old house) into new house and everything connected just fine.

Wow, over 2 years and still no fix for this. Add me to the list, as I’m now having the same issue. I have three thermostats, 2 learning, and one non-learning model (not sure the name). Two of them had the wifi crap out, while one is working fine, as well as my Nest cams. Tried them on both of my networks and went through all the usual troubleshooting steps. Nothing is working.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry to hear you're all having issues reconnecting your Nest Thermostats to the Wi-Fi network. I'd love to know more about this.

Could you please tell us the type of Nest Thermostats you have? Gather the power readouts in the Technical Info settings on your actual thermostats. Also, please give us a rundown of all the steps you've tried.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark

Would love to give you more info, but I replaced mine with a Ecobee after support told me "sorry, you are several months out of warranty"

If you look back at this multi-year thread, you should see all the steps others and myself have tried. Specifically, everything put forth by Google/Nest in their troubleshooting steps, as well as other throwing science at the wall to see what sticks. I can’t speak for others, but I have three thermostats, all under a year old. Two learning, and another that isn’t. They all worked without issue since day one, until one day two of them suddenly and without reason, lost all internet connection, and have since not been able to reconnect, or find any SSID, even when manually entered on the device or through the app itself. My third device followed suit about a month after the other two. To say we all here have tried everything to fix them would be an understatement. We have bricked devices in our homes with no means of using them, other than full replacement, in which case, I can’t see many buying new Nest devices.

Please do something to fix this.

I tried everything for the past 4 days and i still cant see any networks

If you have done everything and you see the W5 code call google for replacement.

Guys, This problem just came to my thermostat out of blue after working fine for about a year. it could not be resolved even after reset and restart. any permanent solution here?

I have 4 of gen 3 leaning thermostats and the newest one I have encountered this problem twice and each time it required a replacement from google. They were very quick on replacement. It’s a known issue (W5) code

There is no solution other than contacting support for a warranty replacement.

It's a design flaw, should be a recall. I switched to ecobee and had no issues for almost 2 years, plus ecobee let's you have multiple thermostat temperature readers that connect wirelessly, so my upstairs and downstairs are balanced.

My nest thermostat auto of sudden lost connection to Wi-Fi did everything as followed and it does not seem to connect to my Wi-Fi continue saying W5. It’s upsetting when I got this device specially cause I have pets in my house. And it can get hot 🥵 kind of wanting to go back to my old one where I leave it at a certain degree and it stays that way doesn’t change on its own.

call google. If the thermostat keep searching for networks and can’t find any and you get the w5 code, call them. There is a known problem. They will send replacement.

As others have said.  This is obviously a known issue.   Have to say though that when I called I got a very polite and capable support person - Dirk.   After telling him that I had already done all of the recommended steps he agreed that the unit had a problem and went through the steps to send me a replacement.   I immediately got the email confirming that and it said that I would receive it in 2-7 days.

Dirk also walked me through the steps to get the unit working in manual mode: not connected to internet or app but will work as thermostat on site in the mean time.
I have 3 other nest thermostats that have worked flawlessly.  Obviously there is an issue.     With electronics, that happens.   What matters to me is what they do about it.  So far for me I would  give them an A +
Had to post this since no one ever reports the positive experiences.   I got to support by Googling nest support and then requesting a call back.

I spent several hours going thru all the steps again. Finally contacted Nest support and after a few more steps, she made the arrangements for a replacement. Nest support is outstanding!

I’m having the same issue. None of the suggested remedies works.

I am having the same issues.  Cannot find any Wi-Fi network.  Was connected and working fine connected to my current network since March.  I disconnected it to re-charge it, and now will not reconnect. A huge problem since I am leaving for an extended trip and need to be able to monitor everything.

Cannot see no Wi-Fi on the nest Thermostat I reset the Wi-Fi connection on the nest and still nothing

Me too, my Wi-Fi stopped as well, Google nest is not responding to Wi-Fi. Terrible

They are sending me a replacement.

How do you get a replacement?  I’ve just given up since I haven’t heard anything?

Did online chat with support. My unit was only 5 months old. Replacement came today and was also defective with a different problem. Spent another hour troubleshooting with them and ultimately they are sending a replacement for the replacement. UGH!

Clearly, this is a problem with the unit - so many people are having the same problem.
