Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing all the details about the issue.

We understand this issue has been happening for quite some time now, but rest assured that our team is aware of this and looking into this issue at hand. Please try to plug in the device to a different power outlet, then attempt a reset.

If unresolved, perform the workaround below:

  1. At the back of the Nest display, unplug the power cord and wait for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until the screen with the "G" logo shows up
  2. Repeat the first step, 10 more times.
  3. After the customer plugs the power cord back in, wait for the device to reset. The device announces "Welcome to Google Home" to signify that it's ready for setup.

Put your device to recovery mode:

  1. Put the device in Recovery Mode (Unplug the device, then perform a long press on the volume up and volume down buttons while the customer plugs the device back in. Once the device turns back on, release the volume buttons.)
  2. Once the device boots into Recovery Mode (a long press on both volume up and volume down buttons at the same time), attempt a factory reset.

If the above steps don't work, please reach out to us to get immediate support on this link: https://bit.ly/3adTfGB

Cheers,

Muddi

I am having the same problem with my Nest Hub. Tried factory reset a couple of times and still stuck on the "g" boot up screen. Anyone figure out what to do?

I have the same problem, I got home and found my nest hub with a gray screen and G logo ...

Mine has grayed out as well. Factory reset just brings me back to the gray screen. Never ever has this happened, now they do an update and suddenly it doesn't work. Very disappointed, I want this fixed!

I have read all the answers and I think that if this update has broken the device, google although it has no guarantee, you should publish your firmware and the process for us to repair the device or replace the item. if not, we should sue google for scheduled obsolescence. very disappointed with google, he had to do things well and with more care.

I have the same problem .. disconnected, went to recovery then tried to reset and went back to grey screen with”g”… help

This hub cost me $150 and now it doesn’t work.

Has there been any resolution to this issue? I noticed today that my nest has the grey screen with white G logo on it and I’ve tried resetting as well and leaving disconnected from power and it just continues to do the same thing. I don’t want to have to start over with Amazon devices but seems to be headed that direction.

Not that I know of..I have a second one which seems to be working fine.. go figure

I prefer Google but if they don’t offer to fix it, I will buy an Amaxon hub.

Me too . They broke it so they are liable for it

Having the same issue and cannot reset

I woke up this morning to the exact same issue. Following the process in the chain above, I am now stuck in a recovery mode cycle, but nothing happens..

my unit is well out of warranty, but sounds like even new ones could end up the same?

Any suggestions Google?

I had a very long discussion with Cindy via Online Support and the telephone. Sadly the Google Nest Hub seems to be totally bricked. Looks like Google may have assisted with a replacement if I lived in a supported country, but South Africa is not. Very disappointed with Google on this one considering they  bricked the unit with a bad update? There seem to be a large number of these, so hope Google come up with a good solution!

Have just got up to my Hub doing exactly the same thing ! Not happy as I’ve bought my son a nest for Christmas ! Have tried reboot and reset and nothing . No support available at moment 😞

And if Google are to blame with an update they need to fix or replace . Otherwise I’m switching to Alexa . Thai simply isn’t good enough

I have had this issue since this morning and have tried all suggested solutions but it just goes straight to grey screen with G in the middle.

I have switched it off every night since I bought it on launch day and it was fine until today.

I managed to get through to online chat and they are apparently sending me a replacement even though it is long out of warranty.

How do you access online chat?

Link is in the solution post

Follow through to the end and choose online chat or you could phone them if you prefer

Just to update everyone here. There does not appear to be a solution for this once you get the grey screen. If like myself and others on here have done you contact the online chat they will ask you a few questions about what you've done to try to resolve issue. If you've found this forum topic you have probably tried everything already. They will then give you a return number and if you send back your 1st gen hub a few days later you will get a brand new 2nd gen hub as a replacement.

I actually managed to get mine to work. I left it unplugged for about a solid 3 minutes. I did a series of connect and disconnect with 10 seconds intervals, both the connect and disconnect. I managed to get past the grey screen. The device connected to the internet however as I was setting up the rest of the features I received an audio notification that there was an error. My sister in law then disconnect the device on a whim at which point I gave up the process. It took maybe five intervals to get it past the grey screen.

Same problem here. I’m not able to get past the gray G screen with any kind of resetting.

Same issue here too. Other day came home and saw it stuck on a grey screen with a G. Just tried leaving it unplugged over night, and tried to factory reset it holding the volume down button, plugging it in. Still stuck on a grey screen after that

I am having the same issue. I have tried factory resetting several times, but I still get the gray screen. I have tried different outlets as well.

I am having the same exact issue, HELP

I'm also having the same issue.

Unplugged it, held down vol down, plugged back in, then pressed both vol buttons and it goes to a factory reset, then back to the gray screen with a G.

Is there any fix for it? Or where should I send it to get a replacement?

I am also having this same issue and just tried the factory reset a few times with no luck, stuck with G logo and won't boot up.

I have same exact issue. Hoping this thread gets updated with a 'solution' that isn't 'we are aware of the problem'

Hi exactly the same issue, tried all the troubleshooting available on this page but still stuck.

Can somebody share the solution he had with the support team ? I don't understand why all tickets are managed in private mailing instead of here....

Please support help us ?

I am having the exact same issue.  I see where people have opened support cases, which I have not done at this point.  What was the solution for the people who opened support cases?  I would like to replicate what they did.  I believe that you could save a lot of frustration and a lot of support personnel's time by placing the solution in this thread.  Thanks!

I’m having this same issue. Nothing I do fixes the issue, it’s just stuck on the grey “G” screen.

I have tried everything.... having the same problem. My Google nest hub gen 1 is stuck on the G logo.  Any ideas ??

Throw one of my hubs into the g screen hang up. Multiple resets and nothing.

I am going to try and get online chat help tomorrow, so will update you all.  Disappointed that no-one from Google has jumped on this thread given how many people have the same problem!

Dsetter

My device has not been off for over a year and was working fine.

I moved it to another room and it would only not to the G screen.

Have contacted support, but waiting to see what happens

This page is WORTHLESS!  Every post is about the same problem(which I'm having also)but there are no real solutions. The recovery/reset screens don't fix it! Can somebody please post a REAL solution
