Manufacture date already 6 years old

I just bought nest Protect and noticed that on back it says manufacture date was 06/25/2016 and to replace by 06/25/2026. So it’s already had almost 60% of its life by the time I bought it. I feel like that’s a rip off. Anyone else notice this?
