Google Nest Protect availability

Nest smoke detectors are out of stock everywhere. I read that it was possibly due to a product recall. Is there any information as to when they will be back in stock? Trying to decide whether to wait or buy different smart smoke detectors.

Nest Protect not testing alarm/siren
