Resolved! Chromecast not picked up on tv when tv turned on

My new chromecast cannot be seen by my tv when the tv is turned on I have the chromecast plugged into the HDMI port on the tv. If I unplug power from the chromecast it will then come up on the tv. Any recommendations on what to do?
