Nest thermostat in Two buildings

I have one nest in the main house where my wife and I live, her father lives in our detached carriage house. If I put a second nest under my account in his apartment will it detect when he's gone and use eco mode, even though I'm home.

Heat

How can I keep the nest at the temperature I want? When we are not there we want the heat at a certain temperature and if there is no movement it will turn down. I keep calling the nest and they try to resolve it but it keeps happening helpppp
