VLC media players keeps freezing

Hi,I just got a Chromecast and installed VLC. We have a server with our media on it, when I try to watch something it plays for a bit and then freezes. I don't have this problem when I use VLC on my tablet or phone.

How can I remove a local device? Whenever I turn on the TV and use Google TV, the remote shows up on every member of my family's phones. There is no option to delete it. I never added it, so why is it there?
